、ance of the EIA P-9 Committee on Test Methods and Procedures.) INTRODUCTION This Test Method forms a part of the EIA Standard RS-186 which contains test guidance, definitions and standard test conditions. 1. PURPOSE This test is intended to evaluate the effect of absorption and diffusion of moisture
、 and moisture vapor on component parts. The test is an artificial environmental test and is severely accelerated to shorten testing time. This test is more severe than Method 1. This test is of value in determining the resistance of the component parts to the inroads of moisture, but should not be c
、onsidered as a tropical test for all types of component parts. This test method provides a means of performing humidity testing without the need for specialized humidity test equipment. 2. PROCEDURE 2.1 Mounting - Unless otherwise specified in the individual specification, specimens shall be mounted
、 by their normal mounting means. 2.2 Pre-Conditioning and Initial Measurements - Unless otherwise specified, the specimens shall be conditioned at a temperature of 50 I5“C (122 *9F) for a period of 24 hours. At the.end of this period, specimens shall be allowed to thermally stabifize under the stand
、ard conditions of test, and initial measurements shall then be made if specified in the individual specification, 2.3 Exposure - The specimens shall be supported in a tightly-closed container (a 0.031 in. (0.79mm) pressure relief hole is recommended) with distilled or dionized water in the bottom. T
、he container with the specimens shall then be placed in an insulated oven at 66 t3“C (151“ k5.4“F). Forced ventilation shall be provided within the oven to insure uniform temperature. The specimens shall be subjected to this exposure for one of the standard periods of time indicated below. Unless ot
、herwise specified 240 hours shall be used. 48 hours 96 hours 240 hours A tolerance of +3% on the total time. shall be allowed. 2.4 Loading and Polarizing Voltages - As specified in the individual specification, voltage shall be applied to r the specimens during the exposure period: the magnitude and
、 points of application shall be as specified. 2.5 Post-Conditioning - After removal from the oven and the closed container, the specimens shall have their surface moisture removed by circulating air at room temperature or wiping with a clean cloth, or both. The specimens shall then be allowed to the
、rmally stabilize under the standard conditions of test. EIA l186-3E 78 = 3234600 0028590 O = RS-186-3E Page 2 2.6 Final Measurements - At the completion of a period of thermal stabilization, final measurements shall a be made. The period of stabilization shall not be less thari 1 hour nor more than
、2 hours unless other- wise specified. The method of measurement shall be as shown in the detailed component standard. 3. SUMMARY The following details shall be specified in the individual specification. 3.1 Preconditioning/requirements if standard conditions (2.2) are not applicable. 3.2 Initial measurements after conditioning (2.2). 3.3 Magnitude of voltage and points of application, if applicable (2.4). 3.4 Exposure duration (2.3) if other than 240-hours. 3.5 Final measurements after exposure (2.6).
