25、nalspecificationwillrequirecooperationbetweencartonmakeranduserandit maybeadvisabletocarryoutapackingtrialwithaquantityofcartonstocheckthevalidityoftheinitial specifications.Thenumberofcartonsrequiredforsuchatrialwilldependonthepackingrateandordersize. 4 BasicTypeGroups 4.1General Intheirdesigncarto
26、nstylescanbeasvariableasthetypesofarticlestobepackedbuttherearecertain recognisedbasictypegroupsorstyles.Thepurposeofthissectionistodescribeacodewhichisusedtoidentify cartonstylesinordertosimplifycommunicationbetweenmanufacturers,specifiers,usersandotherparties involved. Theeconomicuseofcartonboards
27、houldbeaconsideration.Whendesigningthelayoutoftheflatblanksonthe sheetofboardfordiecutting,theuseofstyleswhichcanbeinterlockedwillgiveanadvantageinminimisingthe trimcreated.Changesintherelativelengthofclosureflapsmaypermitamoreeconomicuseofboardareafora givenvolumeofcontents.Theadviceofthecartonmake
28、rontheseandotherconsiderationsonstyleshouldbe sought. Theuseofnumericalcontrolledlasercuttingequipmenttoproducecuttingandcreasingdiesforcartonmakershas ledtothecomputerisedstorageofmanycartondesigns.Otherdesignsmaybereadilyassembledfromastandard flapandpanelshapesstoredinacomputerdatabase. 4.2 Codec
29、omposition Thecodeisbasedonthethreedimensionalshapeofthecartonasitappearsbeforeitsuseorfilling. Thecodehasabasictypedescriptionofaonelettercode(group)andallowsforrelevantsupplementary informationbytwoadditionalparts(firstandsecondelement)eachconsistingoftwodigits.Thismeansthatthe codeismadeupofthree
