30、 Measurements on satellite earth stations - Section 9: Terminal equipment SCPC-PSK 3 General considerations Service channels, also known as engineering service circuits (ESC), are provided for com- munication between earth station personnel to facilitate the operation, maintenance and management of
31、the satellite earth station network. At earth stations operating with SCPC, two channel units providing two pairs of frequencies, as described in IEC 835-3-9, are normally assigned for duplex transmission. The utilization of these frequency pairs for the transmission of different kinds of calls such

In view of these differences, functional tests applicable to the specific system applied shall normally b

In addition, performance tests can also be carried out whenever suitable interface test points are available. 4 Measurement method 4.1 Functional tests In order to carry out the functional tests on the service chan

Previously tested service channel equipment may also be used as the measuring equipment. The equipment under test and measuring equipment shall be interconnected with their asso

These latter are given in IEC 835-3-9, by setting up an i .f. loop-back connection. According to the test arrangement shown in figure 1, a service channel connection
37、 in the SEND direction is established from the equipment under test to the measuring equipment, and in the RECEIVE direction from the measuring equipment to the equipment under test. NOTE - If it is required to test the service channel equipment under the worst case conditions, an i.f. noise source
38、should be inserted into the i.f. loop RECEIVE path to simulate the noise generated in the satellite uplin Wdownlink paths. After setting up this test arrangement, the following functional tests shall be carried out. - Initiate a call from the equipment under test (SEND direction) by dialling the num

Verify that con- nection with the called equipment has been established. Verify also that no connection is established by dialling a number assig

The following is a list of performance parameters which can be measured on the service channel equipme

Measurement methods for these parameters are given in IEC 835-1-2 and IEC 835-1-3. Additional parameters such as signalling level, cross-talk attenuation betwe

Measurement of telegraph parameters may also be required but are beyond the scope of this standard. 5 Presentation of results For each functional test, results shall be presented as a simple pass/fa
