Thepistoncanbeoperatedmanually,electrically,pneumaticallyorhydraulically.Thevolumedeliveredcanbe indicatedmechanicallyorbyelectronicmeans.Thedr
34、ive,thepistonandthecylindercanbeoneunit,ormodularto permittheuseofdifferentpistonsandcylinders(changeoverunits)withthesamedrive. Priortodelivery,thepistonsystemischargedbyaspirationofliquidfromareservoir.Afterairbubblefreefillingofthe system,movementofthepistoninonedirectiondispensestheliquidwhosevo
35、lumeistobemeasured;movementin theotherdirectionrechargesthesystemfromthereservoir(seeFigure 1). Pistonburettesmayormaynotbeequippedwithvalvesormayhaveseveralpiston/cylindersystemswhichdispense continuously. 5 Adjustment 5.1 Apistonburetteshallbeadjustedbyitsmanufacturerforthedeliveryofitsvolumeandfo
36、rthestandard referencetemperatureof ,usinggrade 3waterasdefinedinISO 3696. 5.2 Ifpistonburettesaredesignedtohavetheirfactorypresetadjustmentalteredbytheuser,thedesignshall preventunintentionalreadjustment.Iftheuserreadjuststhepistonburette,itshallbeclearlyandunequivocally indicatedontheoutsideofthep
37、istonburettethatreadjustmenthasbeeneffected,forexamplebymeansofamark, abrokenseal,oralabelaffixedbytheuser. 5.3 Typetestingoftheadjustmentshallsatisfytheperformancerequirementsspecifiedinclause 6whenthe buretteistestedinaccordancewithISO 86556. 6 Metrologicalperformancerequirements Theconformitytest
38、(typeevaluation)specifiedinISO 86556evaluatesthetotalsystemofthepistonburette consistingofthedriveand,ifapplicable,thechangeoverunit(seeclause 4).Theconformitytestshallbecarriedout inaccordancewithISO 86556by thesupplierpriortotheissuanceofasuppliersdeclarationofconformityoracalibrationcertificate,o
39、r atesthouseorotherauthorizedbodypriortotheissuanceofacertificateofconformity. Forconformitytests,themaximumpermissibleerrorsofTables 1and2shallapply. Ifsupplierdeclarationsofconformityorcalibrationcertificatesareissuedforchangeoverunits,thesuppliershall specifythecombinationofdriveandchangeoverunit
