2、 BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE: This specification defines the paint performance requirements for a zinc-rich paint to be used as a top coat over terne plate. 2. APPLICATION: This specification was released originally to provide additional corrosion protection for fuel lines and brake line tubing.
3、 3. REQUIREMENTS: 3.1 SYSTEMS COMPONENTS . Cleaning All surfaces to be painted must be free from oil, grease, dust, rust and other foreign material. . Pretreatment As required for paint adhesion. . Primer ESA-M6J140-A 3.2 FILM PROPERTIES 3.2.1 Initial Hardness Shall be sufficiently cured at the time
4、 of packing to withstand normal handling and shipping without marring. 3.2.2 Coating Weight, min 36.6 g/m2* (.12 oz/ft2) Suggested Method: 1) Weigh tubing. 2) Expose tubing to a solution of diethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate (2 parts by volume) and ethylene glycol (1 part by volume) at 350 F

6、ed covering a minimum of 180 of circumference and one inch length of tubing. Apply 3M #710 type adhesive tape firmly to the scribed surface. Remove tape slowly, applying an even consistent tension. 3.3 DURABILITY PROPERTIES All parts must be aged a minimum of 24 h at 23 +/- 2 C before testing for du
7、rability properties. 3.3.1 Water Resistance Properties, No rust or blistering (FLTM BI 4-1) 3.3.2 Salt Spray Resistance, min 240 h (FLTM BI 3-1, ASTM D 610) The tubing must show no more than 1 % red rust over any 25.4 mm length when compared to ASTM D 610, Plate No. 6. 3.3.3 Resistance Properties Pr
8、imer surface shall show no softening or film defect when immersed 24 h at 23 +/- 2 C in the following currently approved materials: . brake fluid . gasoline . motor oil . power steering fluid . shock absorber fluid . ATF . MTF 3.4 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY Material supplied to this specification must
9、 be equivalent to that originally approved. Changes in formulation or processing shall not be made without prior approval as described in Supplier Procedure I-A. 4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS: Suppliers to this specification must be approved by the affected product engineering office. Procedure for gaining approval of a specific material to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in Supplier Procedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the Engineering Materials Approved Source List.
