SCOPE: This specification defines the performance requirements for the clear plastic elastomeric coating which is applied over painted areas of decorative ornaments. Two substrates, identified below by type, are governed by this specifica
3、tion. Type I Anodized Aluminum Type II Chromium Plated Zinc Die Casting 2. APPLICATION: This specification was released originally for performance requirements for exterior body side ornaments having a jewelry appearance comprised of bright metal and clear plastic coated, dark painted areas. Selecti
4、on of the paint color shall be limited to those dark colors which will not appear to be objectionably discolored by a slight color change of the plastic. 3. REQUIREMENTS: Unless otherwise specified, all requirements pertain to both Type I and Type II. 3.1 APPEARANCE Shall match the approved Styling
5、master. 3.1.1 Primer The specific primer used with each type material shall be indicated on the approved source records. 3.1.2 Paint The paint shall be restricted to dark colors which will not show objectionable color change due to a slight color change of the plastic coating in service. The paint c
6、olor shall be specified on the applicable color charts, engineering drawing, or release. Approved sources of all paint colors shall be listed in the approved source records. 3.1.3 Clear Plastics The clear elastomeric plastic topcoat shall completely cover the painted areas and shall be free from pin
7、holes, blisters, bubbles, and other imperfections. The approved material source of the plastic topcoat shall be indicated on the approved source records. 8、.5 with no objectionable color change prior to the beginning of the model year for which it is intended. 3.2 HEAT RESISTANCE No evidence of plastic separation, color change, or other visible degradation after 1 h exposure at 93 C in a mechanical convection oven. 3.3 ENVIRONMENTAL CYCLING No cracking
9、, crazing, lifting, loss of adhesion, or other visible degradation. Slight color change of plastic is permissible. . Test Method - Anodized Aluminum (Type I) Expose to 5 cycles of the following: . 4 h water immersion at 32 C (FLTM BI 4-1) . 4 h at -29 C . 16 h in the fluorescent sunlamp cabinet (FLT
10、M BV 7-2) . Test Method - Chromium Plated Zinc Die Casting (Type II) Expose to 15 cycles of the following: . 30 min ultrasonic water bath at 91 +/- 3 C . 30 min glycol water bath at -29 C The ultrasonic equipment utilized for this test shall meet the following requirements: . 2.0 watts/in2 (0.31 W/c
11、m2) minimum power . 40 kH frequency 3.4 SUNLAMP EXPOSURE, min 500 h (FLTM BV 7-2) No cracking, crazing, tackiness or other evidence of degradation. Slight color change of plastic is permissible. 3.5 WEATHERING RESISTANCE No evidence of crazing, checking, warping, or other surface degradation, and on
12、ly slight color change when tested as follows: 1) Florida Exposure (Miami Area) 12 months at 5 facing south. 2) Accelerated Weathering 400 h in Atlas XW Weatherometer. Changes in formulation or processing shall not be made without prior approval as described in Supplier Procedure I-A. 4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS: S
14、uppliers to this specification must be approved by the affected product engineering office. Procedure for gaining approval of a specific material to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in Supplier Procedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the Engineering Materials Approved Source List. 5.
