、DECORATIVE STRIPING - OVER PRIMED ELASTOMERIC ESB-M4J106-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a striping lacquer for use over an elastomeric primer/blackout coating. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used for deco
、rative striping of primed elastomeric substrates. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 COMPOSITION The material shall be of an aliphat
、ic polyester urethane type lacquer pigmented to obtain the desired color. The volatile portion shall be adjusted to meet the drying requirements of this specification. 3.1.1 Toxicity The enamel shall contain no benzol (benzene), chlorinated or other toxic compounds, or hydrolyzable chlorine derivati
、ves, nor have an obnoxious or objectionable odor. 3.2 APPEARANCE 3.2.1 Color As specified on engineering drawing and shall match Ford Motor Company Master Panel. 3.3 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.3.1 Non-Volatile (FLTM BI 102-01) The minimum solids content for the various color classes are shown in para 3.3

、.3.4 Stability Shall not jell or liver on standing. Test Method: Place a sealed, 3/4 full pt (0.5 L) can in an oven at 60 +/- 1 C for 16 h. An appreciable increase in viscosity (approximately 15 s) shall indicate nonstability. 3.3.5 Solids, Hiding and Gloss % Solids Hiding Color Class Minimum Maximu

A smooth surface with no pi
、ts or blow holes is required. Solvent wipe panels clean before applying primer. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M4J106-A Copyright 2012, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 5 3.4.2 Primer Apply sufficient coating of Black Primer to obtain 0.0008 - 0.0012 in (20 - 31 m) dry film. Bake 40 m
、in at 121 C. To simulate the heat history of the primer prior to striping, the panels shall be baked for 40 min at 121 C, cooled to room temperature, and re-baked 40 min at 121 C. 3.4.3 Stripe Application To a clean dry panel apply 3 vertical stripes of lacquer with a striping tool. The lacquer shal
、l dry dust free in 5 min, and hard in 16 h. Unless otherwise specified, the material shall be air dried at least 72 h before testing. 3.5 FILM PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Adhesion After 2 h air dry at 23 +/- 2 C, the striping lacquer shall show satisfactory adhesion to elastomeric primer surfacer. Test Method:
、 Apply a strip of ESF-M3G48 tape, 1 in (25.4 mm) wide, to a panel prepared per para 3.4, at right angles to the lacquer stripes. Press down firmly and then pull upward quickly. No lacquer shall adhere to the tape. 3.5.2 Flexibility No cracking when bent over a 1 in (25 mm) mandrel at 23 +/- 2 C. 3.5
、.3 Cold Flexibility Cracking of the paint coating is permitted provided no loss of adhesion of the paint develops at the cracks. Visible hairline paint cracks are acceptable when the test piece is restored to its normal plane. Cracks in the elastomeric substrate, up to 10% of the part thickness are
、permitted. Test Method: Condition the test specimen 0.5 x 6 in (13 x 150 mm) minimum size with at least 1 stripe running parallel to the 6 in (150 mm) dimension, a 0.5 in (13 mm) diameter supported mandrel, and a pair of gloves for at least 4 h at -29 C. At the end of the conditioning period, open t
、he freezer, put on the gloves, grasp the sample firmly at each end and bend (finish side out) as quickly as possible, 180 around the mandrel. 17、 240 h (FLTM BI 104-01) The striping lacquer, applied in accordance with para 3.4, shall show no blistering or loss of adhesion, and no more than slight dulling. 3.6.2 Weathering Resistance Panels prepared in accordance with para 3.4 shall show a minimum degree of fading, chalking or dulling. No cra
、cking when bent over a 2 in (50 mm) mandrel on 0.25 in (6.4 mm) thick elastomeric substrate. No increase of brittleness or loss of adhesion is permitted and panels shall be completely free from evidence of cracking, checking, blistering or peeling when exposed as follows: . Florida Exposure (Miami A
、rea) 12 months at 5 facing south. . Accelerated Weathering 1,000 h Atlas XW Weatherometer per FLTM BO 101-01 for initial paint qualification on typical approved production substrate. 3.6.3 Thermal Shock Resistance (FLTM BI 107-03) The lacquer stripe shall exhibit no blistering or loss of adhesion. .
、 4 h water immersion. . 4 h minimum exposure at -29 C. . Direct steam blast on scribed “X“ at 45 angle 2 - 3 in (50 - 75 mm) from panel for 15 s minimum. 3.6.4 Gasoline Resistance The lacquer stripe shall exhibit no softening, dulling, color transfer, color change, blistering, or show any evidence o
、f loss of adhesion. Test Method: Place the painted panel in a 600 mL beaker half full of M14J148 Petroleum Naphtha - Aliphatic type, for 1 h at 21 C minimum. Wipe the panel with a soft cloth and examine the cloth for evidence of color transfer and the paint film for evidence of degradation. ENGINEER
