、IMER SURFACER, MICROCELLULAR ESB-M6J123-C URETHANE ELASTOMER NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The materials defined by this specification are primer surfacers for use on molded urethane elastomer parts (microcellular or dense). 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for mate

、rials used as primers on molded elastomeric substrates such as bumpers, ornaments or other exterior parts. Two types of primers are defined as follows: Type I Conductive Primer - Recommended when the enamel color coat is applied with electrostatic spray equipment. Type II Non-Conductive Primer 3. RE

、QUIREMENTS (Requirements are for both Types I and II unless specifically stated otherwise.) 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3

、.2.1 Viscosity (FLTM BI 111-01) The enamel viscosity value by color shall be established at I.S.I.R. Tolerance on subsequent batches shall be +/- 6 s #2 Ford Cup or +/- 3 s #4 Ford Cup. 3.2.2 Solids, min 19% (FLTM BI 102-01) The solids content is to be run on unreduced paint if its viscosity is lowe

、r than 26 s #4 Ford Cup at 26 +/- 1 C. If the paints viscosity is higher, adjust the paint viscosity to 26 s #4 Ford Cup at 26 +/- 1 C with a solvent blend agreed to by the manufacturer and user. 3.2.3 Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) The material shall not liver or jell upon standing and must be free fro

、m settling which is not dispersed by normal agitation. The viscosity of the material shall not increase more than 10 s. 8、e: 3.3.1 Panels Use microcellular urethane panels of any convenient size, representative of production material. A smooth surface with no pits or blow holes is required. Solvent wipe panels clean before applying primer. 3.3.2 Primer Reduce to 13 - 22 s #4 Ford Cup using solvent recommended by suppli

、er. Spray 21 - 30 m dry film thickness. Bake the panels to obtain a surface temperature of 121 C for 5 min or 107 C for 20 min. Do not sand. 3.3.3 Color Coat Apply ESB-M2J121-A Elastomeric Enamel (46 m min) and bake approximately 40 min at 121 C to obtain a surface temperature of 116 C for 25 min. 3

、.4 APPEARANCE 3.4.1 Color As specified on the (FLTM BI 109-01) engineering release The primed test plaques as prepared in para 3.3 shall match the master color panels on file at B&CE. 3.4.2 Leveling The primer film shall level with a minimum of orange peel. The surface of the material under test sha

、ll be equal to or better than current approved production material for smoothness when applied and baked under identical conditions. 3.4.3 Holdout There shall be no evidence of dulling or strike-in when enamel color coat is applied over unsanded primer. 3.5 FILM PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Adhesion (FLTM BI 10

、6-01) Both primer adhesion to substrate and enamel adhesion to primer shall be satisfactory, with no chipping. 3.5.2 Electrical Conductivity (Type I only), min 125 (Ransburg Electro-Coating Corp. Model 236 Sprayability Meter or Equivalent) ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M6J123-C Copyright 20
