APPLICATION: This specification was released originally for use for sealing and/or locking threaded fas
3、teners or plugs. i.e., temperature sending unit to engine block. This could be either for fluid pressure resistance or working loose under shock and vibration or a combination of both. 3. REQUIREMENTS: 3.1 COLOR Brown 3.2 VISCOSITY at 23 +/- 2 C 100-500 cP (mPa.s) (ASTM D 445) 3.3 SOLUBILITY Place a
4、 drop of sealant in 1 mL of trichlorethylene and shake vigorously. Examine the solution under transmitted light. 7、ge 2 of 2 3.8 TOXICITY The material shall be nontoxic and shall not cause skin rash or irritation (dermatitis) to exposed handlers in normal production operations. Benzene and chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents are considered toxic and their use is strictly prohibited in compounding material to this s
8、pecification. 3.9 QUALITY Shall be smooth, homogeneous mixture, free from foreign materials and properties detrimental to normal production use. 3.10 STORAGE STABILITY One bottle of compound shall be conditioned for 10 days at 49 +/- 2 C. After cooling to room temperature, the compound shall be test
9、ed for viscosity (para 3.2) and locking strength after normal curing (para 3.4). An increase in viscosity of 50% or failure of the compound to meet the locking strength shall constitute excessive deterioration, and it must be rejected. 3.11 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY Material supplied to this specific
10、ation must be equivalent to that originally approved. Changes in formulation or processing shall not be made without prior approval as described in Supplier Procedure I-A. 4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS: Suppliers to this specification must be approved by the affected product engineering office. Procedure for gaining approval of a specific material to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in Supplier Procedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the Engineering Materials Approved Source List.
