2、COATING ESE-M99P21-A1. SCOPEThis specification defines the performance of a thin film rust preventivecoating.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally to describe the performance ofmaterial used to protect ferrous metal part surfaces against rusting andcorrosion during shipment and in
3、door or outdoor storage.3. REQUIREMENTSIt is not the intent of this specification to identify or control thespecific type or source of rust preventive material, unless otherwisespecified on the engineering drawing. It is the responsibility of thesupplier to select and use a material which is compati
4、ble with productperformance. The supplier shall identify the selected material and sourceto the responsible Materials Engineering activity and obtain Fordtoxicological approval prior to supplying coated parts to Ford MotorCompany.3.1 Parts shall be commercially clean and free from chips, scale, rust
5、,dirt, abrasives and other foreign material.CAUTION: Parts susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement and to becleaned shall follow the cleaning principles defined in ASTM B 242.3.2 Rust preventive materials may be applied by dipping, brush, flowcoating or spraying. Complete coverage of a thin film is re
6、quired,and it must be readily removable by conventional cleaning methods.3.3 Processing lubricants or materials and rust preventive coatings shallnot be tacky or excessively oily to the touch, shall not promoteadherence of dirt, and shall not interfere with assembly or withfeeding of parts in automa
7、tic devices.3.4 The material used must demonstrate capability of providing thefollowing corrosion protection:3.4.1 Humidity Corrosion Test 10 days with no(FLTM BJ 7-3 on panels) rust or corrosion3.5 Rust inhibitors approved to this specification shall contain nosilicones.NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIG

A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is requir
9、ed for material/source approval. Appropriatestatistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.7 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall characteristics to the material u
10、pon which approval wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, composition,construction, color, processing or labeling of the materialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirements, t
11、he Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions
12、 imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat
13、erials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approval oftheir materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier
14、 shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory report to the specification (test results, notnominal values), the material designation and code number, and testspecimens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be addedto the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
