、BLE CONDUIT, NONMETALLIC - FLAME RETARDANT ESF-M3L48-A 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a flexible nonmetallic conduit, composed of cotton warp yarns and kraft paper fillers woven in a tubular form and impregnated with a satisfactory asphaltic solution, coated with a black wax
、and paraffin solution. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used as a protective covering on battery cables. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements F
、or Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 TYPICAL WEB CONSTRUCTION See Table I OF VARIOUS SIZES 3.2 TREATMENT The conduit shall be saturated inside and out with an asphaltic compound and must be free from beads or seams or any obstruction, which will interfere with the free passage of the wire.
、Treatment must be completely dry. All shipments over 100 pieces should be shipped so that the pieces are placed and held in a vertical position during transit and storage, and must be sound when received. Light colored dusting powders are objectionable. 3.3 PERFORMANCE TESTS The finished conduit mus
、t withstand a temperature of 102 +/- 3 C for 15 min without dripping. Shall not absorb more than 35% of its weight after soaking in water at 23 +/- 2 C for 24 h, then blown out with a mild air current. Conduits must be capable of being bent around designated mandrels, at temperatures specified, with
、out collapsing. (See Table I, mandrel size) ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONESF-M3L48-APrinted copies are uncontrolled Copyright 2003, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Page 2 of 3 3.4 FLAME TEST Shall not support combustion for longer than a 1 min period. Test Method: Apply five 15 s applications of
、 a standard test flame with intervals of 15 s between applications. A standard test flame is the blue flame, about 5 in (127 mm) high, produced by a 1/2 in (12.7 mm) Bunsen burner fed with ordinary illuminating gas at normal pressure. The nonmetallic cable conduit shall be held vertically with eithe
、r the lower or the upper end thoroughly sealed to prevent the passage of air. The flame must be applied horizontally.
