2、ct requirementsfor a concentrated liquid cleaner and wax.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used onautomotive exterior finishes. This specification is not intended tolimit the cleaner and wax concentrate to any specific material ormaterial system, but rather define
3、s the performance of the entire system.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 Shall have no adverse effect on exterior paints, rubber, vinyl topmaterials, chrome, aluminum, etc., when used at the recommendedconcentrations.3.2 Shall have a medium foaming property, quick foam collapse, goodsolution drainage, absence of r
4、efoaming upon application of rinsewater and good rinse water drainage.3.3 Shall have good cleaning properties, with the ability to removeroad film, salt, grime, etc., with a minimum of rubbing.3.4 Shall be formulated for use in automatic car washes, portable spraytanks or hand application.3.5 When u
5、sed as directed, it shall not leave any haze, cloudiness, orobjectionable film on the washed surface.3.6 The wax-like content must be of a sufficient quantity to produce alow surface energy film on the surface, causing the beading ofwater, hastening the drainage or run-off of water and improvingappe
6、arance by increasing the surface luster.3.7 Shall be of such a composition that meets all requirementsdescribed in this specification. The material or material systemmust be in a form that lends itself to ease of application.3.8 Provisions of this specification are applicable when theconcentrate is
7、used according to labeling directions, unlessotherwise stated. Precautionary notes involved in the use of thematerial should be clearly stated on the product label.3.9 Must be reasonably safe to apply and must meet all federal, stateand local regulations. The material must be formulated to minimizeh

Supplier shall furnish all necessaryinformation on types of
9、 material required for packaging and on thestorage life of the material in each of the product packagessupplied. For any particular size package or container for theproduct, the supplier shall furnish information of safe storagepractice and recommendations as to maximum and minimum ambienttemperatur
10、es and direct sun load conditions at which the productmay be stored without any adverse effect.3.11 CHEMICAL & PHYSICAL PROPERTIESSpecific chemical and physical properties are not specified herein,but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued tocover each approved material. The select
11、ed engineering approvedsource shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical propertiesalong with the production tolerance limits that apply to thematerial(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon valuesand limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affectedproduct engineering office.
12、 These values will then be used byQuality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The QualityControl Supplement is an integral requirement of thisspecification. If more than one source supplies material to thisspecification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for eachspecific approved ma
13、terial.3.12 LABELING3.12.1 Provisions of this specification are applicable whenmaterial is used according to labeling directions. Anyprecautions involved in the use of the material must beclearly stated on the product label.3.12.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply to the FederalHazardous
14、Substances Act and all other provisions under theConsumer Product Safety Commission and all other applicablefederal, state and local regulations. Supplier shallfurnish the affected product engineering office with thelabel(s).3.12.3 Supplier shall furnish certification that the compositionof his prod
15、uct has been examined and that the labelrecommended is in compliance with the Federal HazardousSubstances Act and all other provisions under the ConsumerProduct Safety Commission. Completed Material Health andSafety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substances Data Sheetsmust be submitted by the supplier to
16、 the Ford Motor companytoxicologist.3.12.4 If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of thelaboratory report wherein the product was evaluated underthe procedures required by the Federal Hazardous SubstancesAct.3.12.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions andspecific usage infor
17、mation for container labels. 18、g datamust also be furnished. Such claims and data areencouraged.3.13 MARKINGContainers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating sourceand compounding date of the material. Supplier must furnish thiscode to the affected product engineering office. Container markingmay be waived if approved
19、in writing by the affected productengineering office.3.14 The test report data furnished by the supplier showing compliancewith this specification shall give the specific test methodsfollowed and shall give specific answers to generalizedrequirements.3.15 Generally accepted test methods (American So
20、ciety for Testing andMaterials, Society of Automotive Engineers and Ford Laboratory TestMethods are preferred) and procedures should be followed where suchmethods are known, otherwise the methods of evaluation should beexplained in detail.3.16 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYMaterial supplied to this specif
21、ication must be equivalent to thatoriginally approved. Changes in formulation or processing shallnot be made without prior approval as described in SupplierProcedure I-A.4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERSSuppliers to this specification must be approved by the affected productengineering office. Procedure for
22、gaining approval of a specificmaterial to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in Supplierprocedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the EngineeringMaterials Approved Source List.5.
