、 LABORATORY TEST METHOD BN 106-02 Copyright 2013, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Page 2 of 4 Procedure 1. Cut 10 warp/wales and 10 fill/courses specimens each 100 x 100 mm in size. The warp/wales specimen is sewn on the fill/courses edge and the fill/courses are sewn on the warp/wales edge. 2. Sew 3
、 pairs of warp/wales specimens and 3 pairs of weft/courses specimens at 8mm. Sew 2 pairs of warp/wales specimens and 2 pairs of weft/courses specimens at 6mm. Tie the loose ends of the stitching threads at either end or back stitch for approximately 10 mm to lock in the thread. Sewn-Seam Constructio
、n The stitch shall be a simple lock stitch with a stitch length of 5-6 stitches per inch or 5.0-4.2 mm per stitch and shall run 8mm from the cut edges of the test specimen for 3 pairs and 6mm for 2 pairs. Cut each sewn piece 25 mm from each side on the length direction. 2mm must be left uncut above
、the seam/sewing line as shown in Figure 1. 3. Place a clip-type clamp on each end of the test specimen (shaded area in figure 1). The space between the clip-type clamps clamped on the test specimen should be total 140 mm. See Figure 1. If test specimens elongate to more than 180 mm between the clamp
、s during the test, they should be re-clamped to 140 mm spacing. 4. Insert the clip-type clamps attached to the test specimen into the test machine sample chucks and clamp in place. 5. Set counter to 2500 cycles and the machine will stop at the end of the test cycle. Evaluation 1. Evaluate 3 warp and
、 3 fill test specimens at 8mm and 2 warp and 2 fill test specimens at 6mm for source approval (the warp specimen is sewn on the fill edge and the fill specimen is sewn on the warp edge). For in process testing, evaluate the worst case direction only. 2. The test sample is evaluated in the test machi
、ne with the built in 3 kilogram weight applied. Measure the maximum length of the hole created per sample piece (each test specimen consists of two sample pieces) due to needle hole elongation. The measurement for needle hole elongation is from the center of the two test pieces (stitch line) to the
、other side of the elongated hole. See figure 2. Report this value in mm. 3. Any test specimen that exceeds the maximum specification requirement for needle hole elongation or has material torn between stitch holes, constitutes a rejection. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in thi
