11、038 mm) within 6 hours* without streaking, running or sagging, and shall show satisfactory adhesion and film hardness after 48 hours. (*Except M-314, which shall dry within 30 minutes). The foregoing as determined by shop trial. 3.5 3.6 3.7 3.8 APPLICATION CHARACTERISTICS: The paint shall show easy
12、brushing, good flowing and spreading, and good leveling properties. A paint that has any noticeable pull under a large wall brush and that shows only fair spreading and flowing properties shall not be acceptable. In addition, this material must be suitable for spraying applications when reduced with
13、 M-14J167 Mineral Spirits. M-454 shall be water reduced, if required. The foregoing characteristics to be as determined by shop trial. RESISTANCE TO OIL AND GASOLINE (M-314 ONLY): The material shall show no signs of lifting, dulling, blistering, or softening and there shall be no appreciable change
14、in color when the air dried enamel is immersed in oil or gasoline. Test Method: Brush the enamel on two 3“ x 8“ (7.6 - 20.3 cm) steel panels and air dry for 24 hours. Immerse one panel in M-2C15A refrigeration, oil, (or equivalent) at (10 C) for 100 hours. After exposure to oil, examine panel for si
15、gns of enamel deterioration. Immerse the other panel in ES specification unleaded regular gasoline for 100 hours at room temperature. After exposure to the gasoline, examine panel for signs of enamel deterioration. RESISTANCE TO OIL (M-340 ONLY): The material shall show no signs of lifting, dulling,
16、 blistering or softening and there shall be no appreciable change in color when the air dried enamel is immersed in M2C15A oil. Test Method: See Paragraph 3.10. TEST PANEL PREPARATION: Panels shall be prepared, unless otherwise noted, by reducing the paint sample to 30 seconds at 80 F (27C) in a No.
17、4 Ford Cup with M14J167 and spraying a complete hiding coat on 0.036“ (.914 mm) clean untreated L.C.O.H. steel panels primed with M-5J35. Air dry panels for two days. M-454 shall be prepared on wood panels, and shall be brushed. 4.
