2、INT, AIR OR FORCED DRYING, FUEL TANKS WSS-M1J216-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an air drying or force drying paint. It is essentially for providing fuel tanks with improved cosmetic appearance, and enhancing the resistance performance of the s

3、ubstrate material. 2. APPLICATION The material is generally used for coating lead plated steel (Terne Plate) fuel tank surfaces. The material must be suitable for pneumatic, airless and electrostatic application. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers a

4、nd part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.4 COMPOSITION 3.4.1 Vehicle The resin shall be based on a suitable synthetic system to obtain the desired application and resistance properties. 3.4.2 Pigment The pigment shall be balanc

5、ed and blended to give the desired color, normally black, unless specified on the component drawing. 3.4.3 Solvent Solvents should be balanced in order to provide suitable storage and application viscositys, while at the same time avoiding flocculation and maintaining correct solvent emission levels

6、. 3.4.4 Specific Composition When it is necessary to obtain specific data regarding material formulation, it is understood that the supplier will furnish such data on request. It may be necessary to supply such information in order to clarify the toxicological status of the material with respect to

7、National or Local Protection Agency constrictions. 8、5.3 Viscosity As Received Initial Sample +/- 5 s FC-4/25 C (FLTM BI 111-01) 3.5.4 Viscosity As Used As Recommended by Supplier (FLTM BI 111-01) 3.5.5 Shelf Stability No excessive change in viscosity (Storage Stability) and no noticeable hard settling (FLTM BI 102-03) 3.5.6 Solvent Emissions The vola

9、tile portion of this material shall meet the applicable requirements of the local air pollution control for the assembly plants in which the coating is used. 3.6 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS (FLTM BI 103-02) 3.6.1 Substrate Ford Engineering Approved Standard Terne Plate, as used by the relevant Compon

10、ent Supplier. 3.6.2 Cleaning Remove all surface oil, grease, and dust with a suitable solvent as described in FLTM BI 103-03, Method F. 3.7 APPEARANCE 3.7.1 General Appearance Coating should provide sufficient coverage to obscure any minor surface defects effecting the overall appearance. 3.7.2 Colo

11、r (FLTM BI 109-01) Black unless stated otherwise on Engineering Drawing. Color should match Approved Master Appearance color panel. 3.7.3 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01, 60 glossmeter) Gloss shall match the Master Appearance color panel. 12、bal Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 3 3.8 FILM PROPERTIES 3.8.1 Film Thickness 25 - 35 micrometers (FLTM BI 117-01) Coating must be sufficient to meet all performance requirements of this specification. 3.8.2 Dry Hiding Power, max 20 micrometers (FLTM BI 158-01) 3.8.3 Drying If allowed to air dry, shoul

13、d be sufficiently dry at normal room temperature, 25 +/- 1 C. 45 - 65% RH, within 15 minutes of application. Forced dry conditions should be those recommended by the supplier. 3.9 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.9.1 Adhesion Grade 0 (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) No chipping 3.9.2 Water Immersion 96 h (FLTM BI

14、104-01) No blistering, softening, or adhesion loss 3.9.3 Salt Spray Exposure 96 h (FLTM BI 103-01) No rust spots, blistering, chipping, peeling, or adhesion loss more than 3 mm from scratches, scar marks, sharp edges or scribe lines. 3.9.4 Fuel Resistance (FLTM BI 152-01) Petrol Resistance Current initial fill gasoline, Standards Premium Grade Diesel Resistance Current initial fill Diesel, National Standard Premium Grade Resistance Test should be carried out using the Local or National Fuel which is predominantly used in the area where the Tank is scheduled for general usage.
