、FORD MANUFACTURING STANDARDS wz3 MARCH 1995 ENE REGULATORS wz3 Page 1 1. GENERAL: 1.1 This standard shall govern the major requirements of all regulators used for the purpose of regulating the flow of oxygen or acetylene gas for production welding purposes within the Ford Motor Company. 1.2 This spe
、cification includes the requirements for Manifold (line) Regulators and Cylinder Regulators (both single and two stage). 1.3 Simplicity of design, speed and ease in the repair and replacement of parts, such as changing of regulator diaphragms, seats, gages, etc. is of great importance in the conside
、ration of approved sources under this specification. 1.4 Interchangeability of parts, within a series of models of a suppliers product, such as between line regulator, single or two stage regulators shall be considered in the approval of a source. 1.5 Oxygen regulators under this specification shall
、 be equipped with a safe, efficient self reseating pressure relief valve. 2. VALVE SEAT: 2.1 Except in the first stage of two stage regulators, all regulators shall be of the type, where the valve seat mechanism works with the gas pressure to assist in maintaining control of the gas flow when regula
、tor pressure is increased rapidly. 2.2 All regulators shall have valve seat mechanism stops arranged to protect the diaphragm from fatigue, breakage, buckling and distortion. 2.3 The valve seat material shall be neoprene, or nylon supported in a holder that will not permit the seat material to work
、down into the nozzle orifice and cause gas passage restriction. 2.3.1 j Valve seats of other materials may be used provided, specific I approval is obtained in writing from the specifying activity at I Ford Motor Company. 2.4 REGULATOR SEAT LEAKAGE: 2.4.1 Regulators seat leakage (creep) shall be at
、an absolute minimum. 2.4.2 All regulators shall pass the following test. Single and two stage regulators shall pass the following test after having successfully passed the test described in Paragraph 8.2. FORD MANUFACTURING STANDARDS wz3 MARCH 1995 OXYGEN AND ACETYLENE REGULATORS wz3 Page 2 2.4.2.1
、Oxygen regulators shall be adjusted to a delivery pressure of 50 psi; acetylene regulators shall be set at 15 psi and allowed to stand for one hundred (100) hours under continuous pressure. 2.4.3 The regulator shall be reset after completion of test in Paragraph 2.4.2.1 to a delivery pressure of: b“
、: Oxygen Regulator 15 psi Acetylene Regulator 5 psi and allowed to stand for two (2) hours. During this time a seat leakage (creep) of over two (2) pounds from the set pressure shall constitute failure. 3. EFFICIENCY: Regulators under this standard shall have diaphragms, orifices and seats of such a
、 size and efficiency that a preadjusted neutral flame, from an approved Ford Motor Company standard gas saver type torch, shall be reaccomplished within one (1) second time after the torch handle has been depressed. Single and two stage regulators shall accomplish this test after the test shown in P
、aragraph 8.2. 4. FILTERS: 4.1 4.2 4.2.1 4.2.2 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 Cylinder and line regulators shall have porous metal filters in the gas inlet passage. Regulators shall be equipped with a filter constructed of a material suitable to reduce the possibility of seat ignition. By this it is meant that the
、filter should act to lessen and dissipate the heat of recompression. (Recompression is defined here as the sudden build up of pressure within the regulator when a cylinder valve is opened suddenly.) The efficiency of the filter shall be measured according to the following test. One half cubic centim
、eter of sand granuals 100 to 200 mesh (.0058“ to .0029“) shall be inserted in the inlet connection of the regulator and the regulator attached to an oxygen cylinder. The regulator shall be adjusted to fifteen (15) pounds delivery pressure and the regulator outlet opened and closed twelve (12) consec
、utive times. Then the regulator allowed to stand two (2) hours. Regulator seat leakage (creep) shall not exceed that shown in Paragraph 2.4.3. 15、as under this specification shall be equipped with a 4,000 pound gage. 8. ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE PROTECTION: 8.1 Acceptable gage and/or regulator guards, which are a permanent part of the regulator assembly, and may be removed for maintenance, may be employed in single and two stage regulator constructio
、n in order to lessen the possibility of accidental breakage. However, each single or two stage cylinder regulator accepted as approved for use within the Ford Motor Company operations shall satisfactorily pass the following test. 8.2 MATERIALS: The material used in the body bonnet and back cap const
、ruction shall have a minimum ultimate strength of 65,000 psi and a minimum yield strength of 45,000 psi. Single and two stage regulator bodies and bonnets shall be tested by “cracking“ a full cylinder of gas into a regulator one hundred (100) consecutive times with the regulator adjusting screw set
、at 75 psi static pressure on oxygen regulators and 15 psi static pressure on acetylene regulators. No damage shall result to either the regulator or gage. FINISHES: All components of the regulators under this specification shall be corrosion resistant or be treated with a suitable finish,to prevent
、oxidation. The inlet connection shall either be removed and a suitable plug inserted in its place or the inlet stem attaching nut plugged to prevent damage to the stem and nut. 8.2.1 1 The complete regulator, including gages shall be dropped, four I (4) consecutive times, from a distance of ten feet
、 (10) and I allowed to fall to a concrete floor. An alternate test of I equal ruggedness may be used if specified. FORD MANUFACTURING STANDARDS wz3 MARCH 1995 OXYGEN AND ACETYLENE REGULATORS wz3 Page 4 8.2.2 The regulator used in the above test shall be suitable for continued use and shall not be re
、ndered inoperative after the completion of this test. 8.3 All other qualifying tests for Ford Motor Company approval of a regulator, except manifold (line) regulators, shall be accomplished after the test as above in Paragraph 8.2. The inability of the regulator to perform satisfactorily all the oth
、er requirements described elsewhere in these specifications, after the above test, shall be considered a regulator failure to meet approval. 8.4 Manifold (line) regulators are not required to be submitted to the test as described in Paragraph 8.2, however, in order to meet approval they must pass all other tests. 1 NOTE: Denotes area of change in previous issue.
