Test of oils for their suitability for rear axles. 2 References Note: Only the latest approved standards are applicable unless otherwise specified. 2.1 External Standards/Specifications. None. 2.2 GM Standards/Specifications. None. 3 Equipment Either 3.1 Rigging Test Stand I
4、I for Rear Axles (Bracing-Tube Design only). 3.2 Drive Line Test Stand. 4 Preparation 4.1 Assemble the rear axle to drawing specification using new gears and bearings. 4.2 An auxiliary axle must be prepared for the rigging test stand II. 4.3 Mount the rear axle assembly as installed in the vehicle.
5、4.4 Fill in the specified amount of oil to be tested. 4.5 A definite constant air cooling by means of a blower must be provided for the test axle. 4.6 The auxiliary axle is to be water cooled. 4.7 Connect the transducers and measuring instruments necessary to conduct the test: 4.7.1 Cooling air and
6、rear axle oil temperature monitoring device. 4.7.2 Torque monitoring device. 4.7.3 Monitoring equipment for rear axle housing borne sound. 5 Performance 5.1 Two test sequences (1 through 9 and 10 through 18) each having 9 increments are run according to the following schedule: GMDAT ENGINEERING STAN

8、haracteristics of the engine in question, considering the respective transmission range. Multiply this value wit
9、h i3rd gear to obtain the pinion torque. 5.2 The rear axle is to be tested for 2 hours at each increment. 5.3 The oil sump temperature may not exceed +30 E at the beginning of each increment. 6 Bogy 6.1 For each test oil, at least one comparison test is to be conducted with the currently released pr
10、oduction oil. 6.2 If the oil sump temperature in the rear axle exceeds +200 E , the test is to be discontinued for the respective increment and continued at the next increment in the program (refer to 5.3). 7 Evaluation 7.1 Criterion for the suitability of a rear axle oil is the temperature curve at
11、 each increment. The oil sump temperatures shall be lower or not considerably higher than the temperatures measured for the same increments or released oils. 7.2 All rear axle components will be evaluated in cleaned condition by the responsible engineer (contact patterns, score marks, wear, etc.). 8
