It is Superceded for all future projects and replaced by GMW3136. 1. PURPOSE This standard specifies
、 to examine whether the condition of the fragments, in the event of the fracture of the toughened glass, can keep the necessary safety. 2. SCOPE This standard applies to the toughened safety glass for the side or back glass of automobiles 3. SPECIMENS Products shall be furnished to the test. 4. EQUI
、PMENT 4.1. A hammer or a punch of which pointed end is 0.2 0.05mm in radius of curvature. 4.2. A counting frame of 50 50mm or 100 100mm square. 4.3. Blue print copier 4.4. Ultraviolet lamp 5. CONDITION OF THE TEST 5.1. Impact point (The point of impact selection) 5.1.1. Point 1 : 30mm from the edge
、of specimen at the place where the radius of curvature of the edge is smallest, directing to the centre of the specimen, and either on the left side or the right 5.1.2. Point 2 : 30mm from the edge of the specimen on the shortest or longest median line of the specimen. Where there are tong marks, th
、e points shall be selected on the side bearing the tong marks. 5.1.3. Point 3 : Approximately near the center of the specimen. 5.1.4. Point 4 : Applied only to the complex-curved specimen, and at the place where the radius of curvature of the edge is smallest on the longest median line of the specim

Hold the specimen so that the fragments can not scatter when it fractures. 5.2.2. Strike the impact point with
、a punch which pointed end is 0.20.05mm in radius curvature, to break the specimen. Use one specimen for every impact onto one point. 5.2.3. Immediately observe the condition of fragments and measure and made by photographic reproductions of the fragmentation. 6. MEASURING METHOD OF FRAMENTS 6.1. Sel
、ect two portions where the fragments are the coarsest and the finest in size, and count the number of fragments existing in the contain frame of 5050mm in each portion. 6.2. Where the number of the coarsest fragments in the case of safety glass not more than 3.5mm in nominal thickness is less than 4
、0, count the number of fragments in the counting frame of 100100mm including that part of the coarsest fragments.(Any fragment lying on a side of the counting frame shall be counted as 1/2 piece.) 6.3. Count the number of fragments with an area exceeding 3cm2, and measure each of their areas. 6.4. C
、ount the number of elongated shape fragments exceeding 75mm long, and measure each of their length. 6.5. Measure each of angles which the elongated shape fragments extending to the edge of the glass form with that edge, and each of their lengths. 6.6. Exclude the areas, within 20mm from the peripher
、y of the glass and within 75mm in radius from a point of impact, from the measurements. Condition of fragments
、 of flat or single curved tempered For flat or single curved tempered glass, three specimens shall be tested. If all the specimens satisfy the requirements specified in follow, the glass shall be acceptable. If two specimens satisfy, further one specimen shall newly be re-tested at the same point of
、 impact as that of the failed specimen. And if it satisfies the requirements, the glass shall be acceptable. If one or no specimen satisfies the requirements, further three specimens shall newly be re-tested. And if all the new specimens satisfy the requirements, the glass shall be acceptable. 7.2.
、Condition of fragments of complex-curved tempered glass For complex-curved tempered glass, four specimens shall be tested. If all the specimens satisfy the requirements specified in follows, the glass shall be acceptable. If three specimens satisfy, further one specimen shall newly be re-tested at t
、he same point of impact as that of the failed specimen. And if it satisfies the requirements, the glass shall be acceptable. If one or two specimens satisfy, further four specimens shall newly be-tested. And if all the new specimens satisfy, the requirements in follow, the glass shall be acceptable.
、 Type of glass Condition of fragments Laminated glass 1) The number of fragments shall not be less than 40 nor more than 400. In the case of the specimens not more than 3.5mm in nominal thickness, even if the number of fragments is less than 40 in any area of 5050mm square, it shall be allowed only
、if the number of fragments is not less than 160 in any area of 100100 mm square including the former area. 2) The number of fragments exceeding 3cm2but not more than 5 cm2 shall not be more than 2. 3) The number of fragments of elongated-shape exceeding 75mm long but not more than 150mm long shall not be more than 5. 4) If the elongated fragment extending the edge, of the specimen forms an angle not less than 45with it, its length shall be less than 60mm. 8.
