TWISTED TUFTThe General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial ItemDescription by all federal agencies.1. SCOPE. This Commercial Item Description covers
2、 brushes for use with pneumatic or electric powertools in the light duty removal of rust, scale, paint, or burrs from all types of metal surfaces.2. CLASSIFICATION. Unless otherwise specified brushes shall conform to the following types.2.1 . Brass.2.2 . Stainless steel.a71 2.3 Tvue 111.High-carbon
3、tempered steel.Twisted tuft wire wheel.3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.,3.1 Desizn. Wheel shaped design for use with portable or stationary power tools. Brushes shall have anarrow face width to be used individually or in multiple configurations on a common arbor. The brushshall possess an unthreaded arbo

6、r minimal vibration at max rated a71free speed R.P.M. To also minimize vibration the arbor-hole shall be centered to insure the brush runstree. Provisions shall be made for securely holding the fill wire in place and to prevent the wire fromdetaching due to flex during use or at rated free speed RPM
7、 Where welded construction is used, the wireshall not be burned, broken, or affected in any way by the welding process.3.1.2 As specified, the crimped wire shall be of brass, stainless steel, or high carbon tempered steelof specified diameter and wire-points (density). Tufts shall consist of U-shap
8、ed till wire passed through oraround the retainer and twisted tightly. Brushes less than 10 inches in diameter, the wire shall have a lefthand helix with at least one full turn and brushes 10 to 12 inches in diameter, the wire shall have at least1-1/2 turns to prevent untwisting during use.3.2 Ident
9、ification markirw. The tool $all be marked with the Maximum Safe Free Speed, (RPM orMSFS), the words “Wear Eye ProtectIon”, the manufacturers name or identi&ing symbol and the state orcountry of manufacture, unless otherwise specified. All identification markings shall be etched, engraved,molded, or
10、 indented directly on the items surface in such a manner that it remains clearly legiblethroughout the life of the item.3.3 Workmanship. Details of workmanship shrdl be in accordance with the best commercial practices.The brushes shall be well constructed with a balanced distribution of wire fill. P
11、aints, coatings, plating,and finishes shall be smooth, adherent, continuous and not stained or discolored. External surfaces shallbe free of tool and gouge marks, nicks, or other surface imperfections. The item”shrdl be free frommanufacturing workmanship defects (e.g. sharp or rough external edges,
12、comers, or surfaces) and materialworkmanship defects (e.g. pits, rips, fins, burrs, tears, nodules, cracks, or blisters), which may adversely a71impact the items serviceability, durability, safety, or appearance.4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.4.1 Recovered materials. The supplier/manufacturer is encoura
13、ged to use recovered materials to themaximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation(FAR), .4.2 Metric Droducts. Products manufactwed to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basiswith those manufactured using inch-pound units, provide
14、d the y fall withh the tolerances specified (usingconversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard 376) and all other requirements ofthis document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceedthe tolerances specified in the inch- pound u
15、nits, a request should be made to the contracting officer todetermine if the product is acceptable.5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE.5.1- The brushes shall comply with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standardB1 65.1-1991, Safety Requirements for the design, Care and Use of Power Driven Brushing To
16、ols.5.2 Product Conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CommercialItem Description, conform to the suppliers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurancepractices, and the same product and offered for sale in the commercial market. Unless otherwise specified, the supplier is responsible for theperformance of all inspection re
18、quirements and may use any commercial facilities (including thesuppliers own facilities) suitable for performance of the inspection requirements, unless disapproved bythe Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any inspections deemed necessary toassore the item conforms to the speci
19、fied requirements.6. PACKAGfNG. Requirements of preservation, packing, packaging, and marking of packages shall be asspecified in the contract or order.7. NOTES.
