1、INCH-POUND A-A-3021 October 10.1996 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION EXTRACTOR, SCREW (STD AND PIPE) The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description for procurement of type I, class 1, style A and B; class 2; and class 3 extractors specified in GGG-E-936C fo
2、r ali federal agencies. I. SCOPE. 1.1 Scope. This Commercial Item Description covers handsperated extractors for use in removing broken screws, studs, bolts, and pipes. 2. CLASSIFICATION. 2.1 Classification. This Commercial Item Description covers screw (stud and pipe) extractors of the following cl
3、asses and styles: Class1 - Tapered, spiral flutes or ridges StyleA - Drill StyleB - Plug Class2 - Tapered, straight fluted Class3 - Straight, straight fluted 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Desim. The screw (stud and pipe) extractors shaii be of steel and shali be the standard product of the manufac
4、turer. A square end or other suitable means shail be provided for using a standard wrench in backing out broken screws, studs, bolts, and pipes. Dimensions not having a minimum, maximum, or tolerance range are considered to be nominai dimensions. Size deviations that are nod to standard manufacturin
5、g practices wiii be acceptable. The recommended drill size required for using the screw extractor shali be permanently and legibly marked on each extractor, the nominai pipe size shall be permanently and legibly marked on the class 3 screw extractors. When required to be tested for hardness, sample
6、extractors shaii be tested in accordance with ASTM E 18. When required to be tested for torsional moment, sample extractors shall be tested as follows: a. Class 1, style A, sizes 7 through 12, inclusive Class 1, style B. sizes 6 through 9, inclusive A hole shall be drilled in a steel plate or block,
7、 the hole being determined by referring to the largest driii size for the specific class, style, and size of the extractor listed in the applicable table in this commercial item description. The steel plate or block shall be of carbon tool steel and heat treated to a hardness of 36 to 42 on the Rock
8、weii C scale. The steel plate or block shail be of medium carbon steel and heat treated to a hardness of 24 to 30 on the Rockweil C scale. c. Extractors not included in “a” and “b” above: The hole size shall be determined as in
11、“a” above. The steel plate shall be of low-carbon, unhardened steel. If lead holes are not drilled, care shall be exercised to select drills that are ground on center, in order to prevent the holes from being drilled oversize. A new hole is required for each extractor when testing classes 1 and 2. T
12、he extractor shall be inserted in the drilled hole and gentiy driven in suniciently to provide a frm engagement. A torque testing machine, or other suitable means, shall be utilized to exert a steady pressure of torque unil the minimum torsional moment in inch-pounds is reached, or the extractor fai
13、ls. Failure shall be deemed to have occurred when the extractor breaks or a permanent bend or twist occurs. If more than one of the sample extractors fail to meet the minimum inch-pounds specined in Tables I, II, III, or IV, as applicable, this shall be cause for rejection of the lot represented by
14、the sample. 3.2 Class 1, style A and style B. The screw extractors shall have left-hand spiral flutes or ridges unless otherwise specified (see 7.2). The flutes shall start at the smail end and generate working edges at least to the minimum length of the specied taper. The screw extractors shall be
15、heat treated and conform to a hardness of 52 to 60 on the Rockwell C scale. 3.2.1 Class 1, stvle A. The type I, class 1, style A screw (stud and pipe) extractors, apered, spirai flutes or ridges, drill shall be similar to Figure 1 and conform to the dimensions specified in Table I. Figure 1.
