B) .-The webbing shall be as closely and tightly interlaced as pos- sible, and the ends folded over twice and tacke
6、d, using not less than 10 tacks to each end. The tacks shall be carefully staggered to avoid split- ting the wood. The coil springs for the seat shall be spaced not over 1 inch apart. Each spring shall be secured to the webbing in four places with stitching twine. The top of each spring shall be tie
7、d in eight places with twine and the ends of the twine shall be securely fastened to the frame. All twines side-to-side and front-to-back shall be double-tacked. The springs shall be covered with burlap which has 6 been reinforced with spring mire and the bur- lap shall be doubled over and tacked to
8、 the frame. A 3-inch-thick molded latex foam cushion shall be applied over the burlap and all edges of the cushion shall be secured to the sides of the frame. The cushion shall have a muslin tacking strip secured around all four sides for tacking to the frame. All edges of the molded latex foam cush
9、ion shall be rounded or tapered and the cushion slid be slightly larger than the frame. A layer of cotton shall be placed over the cushion and final covering (frieze top and front and leather sides) shall be applied. 3.5.2.2 Rubber seats ($9.3) .The webbing shall be as closely and tightly interlaced
10、 as pos- sible, and the ends folded over twice and tacked using not less than 10 tacks to each end: The tacks shall be carefully staggered to avoid split- ting the mood. The coil springs for the seat shall be spaced not over 1 inch apart. Each spring shall be secured to the webbing in four places wi
11、th stitching twine. The tops of each spring shall be tied in eight places with twine and the ends of the twine shall be securely fas- tened to the frame. All twines side-to-side rind front-to-back shall be double-tacked. The springs shall be covered with burlap which has been reinforced with spring
12、wire and t.he burlap shall be doubled over and tacked to the frame. An edge roll of burlap and jute shall be applied on all four sides and the top of the seat levelled off with a thin layer of hair. Over this a molded latex foam cushion of the thickness required by the design, but in no case less th
13、an 1 inch thick, shall be applied and all edges shall be secured to the sides of the frame. The rubber molded cushion shall have a muslin tacking strip around all four sides for tacking tb the frame and the cushion shall be slightly larger than the frame. A layer of cotton shall be placed over this

Seams shall be neatly closed by lock stitches. 3.5.2.4 Am (figs. 9, 3, and .$).-Require- ments shall be as specified in 3.5.1.6. 3.6 Covering.-All outside covering shall be expertly applied and neatly tailored thr
16、oughout CO that it is smooth and even with no straining wrinkles. The size of thread and the type and number of stitches shall be suitable for th0 serviceability intended by the quality of the chairs. Welt lines shall be straight, true, and uniform and melts shall be of the same qual- ity and color
17、of leather as specified for the out- side cover. Leather-covered spring backs and loose seat cushions shall be adequately venti- lated with not less than two brass or bronze vents with fine brass wire screened openings The cover shall be evenly nailed with nails placed as close together as possible
18、without overlapping (close-nailed) . 3.7 Method of finishing.-All exposed wood surfaces with the exception of the under- side of the arms, stretchers and base legs, shall be brought to a smooth surface and stained to match the Federal Supply Services Standard Walnut color panel (see note 1). Stain s
19、hall be of the non-grain-raising, light-f ast, solvent type. These surfaces shall then be given a prime coat of shellac. Open pores shall be completely filled with wood filler and all corners and carvings brushed and cleaned. Filled sur- faces shall be corrected by carefully retouching and toning to
20、 insure a uniform color and the matching of the standard color. The exposed surfaces shall then be sandpapered and cleaned, and three coats of varnish applied. Each coat of varnish shall be permitted to dry thoroughly. The first and second coat shall be sandpapered. The t.hird coat shall be rubbed t
21、o a semi-dull gloss with pumice and oil, and then all sur- faces shall be cleaned. The finish of the un- exposed surfaces (underside of arms, stretchers and underside of base legs) shall consist of stain, one coat of shellac and one coat of var- nish. Application of materials, drying time, sanding,
22、cleaning and rubbing shall be con- trolled to produce a uniform, clean, and smooth finish, without machine marks, blisters, pits, wrinkles, runs or mor0 than a trace of orange- AA-C-30Oa peel. The filler and other hishing materials shall not cloud the natural grain of the wood. 3.8 Workmanship.-The
23、details of con- struction, including design, joining, assembly, filling, covering, finishing and marking shall be in strict accordance with the detail require- ments and tolerances of this specification and figures 1 through 4. Any of the above details which are not specified or shown in the figures
24、 shall be in accordance with first-class commer- cial chair work. Finished chairs shall be neat and shall be free from any defects that affect the appearance or which might affect the serv- iceability of the chairs or the safety of the users. 3.9 Identification marking.-!he under- side of the seats
25、shall be permanently and les- bly marked or cloth-labeled with the Federal stock number, the name of the manufacturer, the specification number, and the date of manufacture. i 4. SAMPLING, INSPECTION, AND TEST PROCEDURES 4.1 Sampling.-Representative s a m p 1 e s shall be taken from those under cons
26、truction or from each delivery, for purposes of inspec- tion. 4.2 Inspection.-The chairs shall be in- spected to determine compliance with this speci- fication with respect to design, moisture content of wood, workmanship, materials, details of construction, hardware, finish, packaging and markings.
27、 Inspection may be made at the fac- tory by a represensentative of the Government at any time during the process of manufacture or at the point of delivery. 4.3 Tests. 4.3.1 Cotton felt.-The etton felting shall be examined for compliance with 3.2.3 by clasi- fiers licensed by the U. S. Government De
28、part- ment of Agriculture ; or representative samples, each weighing not less than I4 pound, may be forwarded to The Board of Cotton Examiners, U. S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D. C. The opinion of this Board as to the true grade or quality shall be final. 4.3.2 Breabing strength for tzc
