4、eplaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method to reveal discontinuities, such as pores, in coatings of tin, nickel, copper, cobalt or chromium on iron or steel. 2.0 MATERIAL A test solution prepared by dissolving 10 g a
5、gar, 10 g sodium chloride and 1 g potassium ferricyanide in 1 liter of warm distilled water. 3.0 PROCEDURE 3.1 Clean and degrease the surface to be tested with methyl alcohol. 3.2 Slowly warm the test solution to 93C (200F) to liquefy it. 3.3 Apply the warmed test solution to the specimen by one of
6、the following methods: 3.3.1 dip specimen into solution 3.3.2 pour solution over specimen 3.3.3 dip a piece of filter paper into the solution; allow the excess to drain off then apply to test area and allow to remain undisturbed. Do not apply the solution if its temperature is below 60C (140F). 3.4
7、Suspend specimen, without touching the coating, in a horizontal position at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) for the period specified. 3.5 At the end of this period examine coating or remove filter paper and examine face that was in contact with specimen. Blue spots indicate basis metal corrosion or porosity.
8、4.0 REPORT 4.1 The area of surface tested. 4.2 Total number and the size of all spots visible to the unaided eye. 4.3 The highest number of spots visible at one time through a template with a 25 x 25 mm (1 x 1 inch) opening in it, when placed on the surface.
