It is applicable to undergroundsteel pipelines in the oil and gas gathering, distribution, and transmission industries.This standard was prepared

13、 by NACE Task Group 250 on Coal-Tar Enamel Coatings for ExternalRepair, Rehabilitations, and Weld Joints on Pipelines. This Task Group is administered bySpecific Technology Group (STG) 03 on Protective Coatings and LiningsImmersion/Buried, andis sponsored by STG 04 on Protective Coatings and Linings

18、l 1_Section 1: General1.1 This standard presents guidelines for establishing mini-mum requirements to ensure proper application and perfor-mance of a field-applied coal tar enamel (CTE) system tothe external surfaces of pipe. Included are methods forqualifying and controlling the quality of a CTE sy

19、stem,guidelines for its proper application, and inspection andrepair techniques to ensure its long-term performance.1.2 This standard is applicable to CTE coating systemsused to prevent corrosion in conjunction with cathodic pro-tection.1.3 This standard complements the discussion of plant-applied C

20、TE pipe coating systems in NACE StandardRP0399.1_Section 2: DefinitionsApplicator: The organization responsible to the purchaserfor the coating application.Coating Materials: Primer, coal tar enamel, and rein-forcing wraps.Coating System: The complete number and types of coatsapplied to a substrate

21、in a predetermined order. (Whenused in a broader sense, surface preparation, pretreat-ments, dry film thickness, and manner of application areincluded.) For the purpose of this standard, the coating sys-tem includes primer, coal tar enamel, and reinforcing wrapsafter coating application to the subst

22、rate.Holiday: A discontinuity in a protective coating thatexposes unprotected surface to the environment.Inspector: An authorized agent of the purchaser.Purchaser: The owner company or the authorized agencythat has the authority over the pipe to which the coating is tobe applied.Repair Area: Area of

23、 original coating systems damagedthat is being repaired by the coating materials.Shelf Life: The maximum-allowable storage time for acoating material prior to its use.Supplier: The manufacturer and/or distributor of the coat-ing material.Weld Area: The length of pipe left uncoated after beingwelded

24、together during field installation of the pipeline._Section 3: Coating Systems3.1 The standard CTE coating system contains the follow-ing components:(a) primer;(b) coal tar enamel: 2.4-mm (94-mil) minimum thick-ness;(c) glass fiber innerwrap;(d) coated glass fiber or other performance-compar-ableout

25、erwrap; and(e) if required, kraft paper, or water-emulsion latex paint, orwhitewash.3.2 The double-coat-and-wrap CTE coating system re-quired for submerged lines, extraordinarily severe trenchconditions, or other similarly difficult conditions contains thefollowing components:(a) primer;(b) coal tar

26、 enamel: 2.4-mm (94-mil) minimum thick-ness;(c) glass fiber innerwrap;(d) coated fiberglass or other performance-compar-ableouterwrap(e) coal tar enamel: 0.80-mm (31-mil) minimum thickness;(f) coated glass fiber or other performance-compar-ableouterwrap; and(g) if required, kraft paper, or water-emu

27、lsion latex paint, orwhitewash.RP0602-20022 NACE International_Section 4: Coating Material4.1 Coating Material Supplier Information4.1.1 Upon request, the coating material supplier shallfurnish in writing the following information for the pur-chaser and/or applicator:(a) directions for handling and

28、storage of the coatingmaterial;(b) results of laboratory performance tests of thebasic physical properties of the coating materials;(c) material safety data sheets (MSDS); and(d) certificate of the physical properties of eachbatch of material.4.2 Handling of Coating Materials4.2.1 Coating material b

29、atches shall be identified by abatch coding system devised by the supplier. Thebatch code shall include a reference to the date ofmanufacture. Coating materials shall be shipped andstored according to recommendations from the supplierso that contamination or adverse effects on the coatingare avoided

30、.4.2.2 Shelf Life: Any batch of coating material thathas exceeded the recommended shelf life may berejected by the purchaser.4.2.2.1 Any rejected coating material shall beimmediately removed from the job site. At the op-tion of the purchaser, any batch of coating materialthat has exceeded the recomm

31、ended shelf lifemay be tested to verify that it meets or exceedsthe requirements as set forth herein or by otherindustry standards as agreed on by the purchaserand the applicator. The expense of such testsshall not be the responsibility of the purchaser.The purchaser shall not be under any obligatio

32、n toaccept material that has exceeded its shelf life.4.3 Coating Material Properties4.3.1 It is the responsibility of the coating material sup-plier to perform the tests cited in this section. The pur-chaser or applicator may also perform any or all of thecited tests as part of a quality assurance p

33、rogram.4.3.2 The coating material shall meet the value limitsfor the properties listed in Appendix A._Section 5: Coating Properties5.1 Recommended characteristics of an applied coatingsystem are outlined in NACE Standard RP0169.25.2 Recommended CTE properties include the following:5.2.1 Thermal Cond

34、uctivity: 0.16 W/m-K (1.1BTU/ft/h/F/in.), in accordance with ASTM(1)E 122535.2.2 Electrical Resistance: 1 x 1014ohm-cm, inaccordance with ASTM C 61145.2.3 Dielectric Strength: 10 V/m (250 V/mil), inaccordance with ASTM D 49555.2.4 Water Absorption: 0.2% or 0.3 g/30cm ( 0.1oz/50 in.), in accordance w

35、ith ASTM D 9565.2.5 Water Vapor Permeability: 6.5 x 10 perms, inaccordance with ASTM E 9675.2.6 Cathodic Disbondment: max. 8-mm (0.3-in.)radius at 60 days, in accordance with ASTM G 885.2.7 Adhesion: min. 2.4 MPa (350 psi), in accord-ance with ASTM D 454195.2.8 Coefficient of Friction: 0.59 to 0.91,

36、 in accord-ance with ASTM D 451810_Section 6: Surface Preparation of Pipe6.1 This section covers recommended procedures for sur-face preparation to ensure the desired performance of aCTE coating system.6.2 Bare pipe shall be supplied to the applicator visibly freeof mill lacquer, oil, grease, and ot

37、her foreign deposits. Theapplicator shall remove any remaining deleterious depositsfrom the surface to be coated in accordance with SSPC(2)-SP 1.11_(1)ASTM International (ASTM), 100 Barr Harbor Drive, West Conshohocken, PA 19428.(2)Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), 40 24th St., 6th Floor, Pitt

38、sburgh, PA 15222-4656.RP0602-2002NACE International 36.3 The applicator shall visibly inspect the pipe surface tobe coated for dents, scabs, slivers, and other damage.Those defects shall be noted and the purchaser shall beinformed of the damage within 24 hours of discovery.Defective pipe shall be se

39、t aside pending examination bythe purchaser for approval, reconditioning, or rejection.6.4 The pipe shall be uniformly heated to remove moisturefrom the surface.6.4.1 Type 4 epoxy-based primer (see Table A2)requires preheating of the pipe prior to application. Thetemperature shall be in accordance w

40、ith the manu-facturers recommendations.6.5 The surface of the pipe, weld, or repair area shall beabrasively blast cleaned using grit or a grit/shot mixture toachieve the surface described in NACE No. 3/SSPC-SP 612orSa2inISO(3)8501-1.13Where blast cleaning is notpractical the surface shall be prepare

41、d by hand tool clean-ing in accordance with SSPC-SP 2,14or by power toolcleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP 315or ISO 8504-3.16If the steel surface has been previously blast cleaned at thecoating plant, wire brushing of the steel surface should besufficient to provide a clean surface for application

42、 of theprimer. The surface temperature of the pipe shall be atleast 3C (5F) above the dew point during blasting oper-ations.6.6 For abrasive blast preparations the surface profile shallbe 38 to 89 m (1.5 to 3.5 mils) from peak to valley.6.7 Sound coatings adjacent to the area being repairedshall be

43、protected from shot/grit blast cleaning and damageby impact, gouging, mechanical cleaning, or any other con-tact.6.8 Residual products from any abrasive blasting or clean-ing shall be removed from the interior and exterior surfacesof the pipe._Section 7: Coating Application7.1 This section describes

44、 coating material selection andapplication parameters for obtaining optimum performanceof a field-applied CTE system.7.2 The purchaser shall specify the specific primer, CTE,innerwrap, outerwrap, kraft paper, and whitewash or water-emulsion latex paint to be used.7.2.1 The primer and CTE shall be fu

45、rnished by thesame manufacturer. Comparable substitutes may beagreed by the purchaser provided the componentsmeet all the requirements of Tables A1 and A2 whentested together.7.3 The primer shall be applied uniformly in accordancewith the manufacturers recommendations and be free ofruns, sags, drips

46、, bare spots, and other defects.7.4 The primer shall be applied between the minimum dry-film thickness stated in Table A2 and a maximum dry-filmthickness of 76 m (3.0 mils).7.5 The primer shall be completely dry prior to applicationof the CTE and reinforcing wraps. The surface temperatureof the prim

47、ed pipe shall be at least 3C (5F) above the dewpoint prior to application of the CTE.7.5.1 Type 4 epoxy-based primer which is a two-packmaterial shall be “tacky” prior to application of the CTE.The surface of the pipe shall be preheated as recom-mended by the manufacturer prior to the primer appli-cation.7.5.2 Primed pipes shall be protected from contactwith moisture,
