12、ernational i _ Foreword This standard practice was prepared to serve as an industry guideline for the proper application of internal plastic coatings on oilfield tubular goods and accessories. This standard is intended for users, applicators, and manufacturers. Premature failures of coatings on oilf

13、ield tubular goods and accessories often occur when the surface has not been properly prepared or the coating has not been properly applied. This standard presents proper procedures to be followed to ensure appropriate application of the coating to give the anticipated extended life to oilfield tubu

14、lar goods and accessories. This standard was originally prepared in 1991 by NACE Task Group T-1G-4, a component of Unit Committee T-1G on Protective Coatings, Elastomers, and Other Nonmetallic Materials for Oilfield Use. This standard was reviewed by T-1G and reaffirmed in 1996. It was reaffirmed in

15、 2002 and 2008 by Specific Technology Group (STG) 33Oil and Gas Production: Nonmetallics and Wear Coatings (Metallics). This STG is comprised of representatives from the oil and gas industry including consumers, producers, and interested individuals. This standard is issued by NACE International und

21、o the internal surfaces of oilfield tubular goods and accessories. 1.2 The function of the internal plastic coating system is to provide a protective barrier between the metal surface and the environment. 1.3 By preventing or minimizing corrosion with protective coatings, the service life of the tub

22、ular goods and accessories is extended. Proper coating application prevents premature failure. 1.4 This standard addresses initial inspection of the tubular goods and accessories prior to coating, surface preparation, coating application, coating inspection, coupling/connection make-up, quality cont

23、rol, handling, storage, shipping, and marking. _ Section 2: Definitions Applicator: An individual or company that performs the plastic coating application. User: An individual or company, or its authorized representative(s), who makes use of the internally plastic-coated (IPC) tubular goods and acce

24、ssories. IPC material: Internally plastic-coated tubular goods (tubing, casing, line pipe, or drill pipe) and accessories (couplings, fittings, valves, mandrels, packers, etc.) Manufacturer: An individual or company that manufactures the plastic coating. Plastic coating: A polymeric film applied to

25、oilfield tubular goods (tubing, casing, line pipe, or drill pipe) and accessories (couplings, fittings, valves, mandrels, packers, etc.) to form a protective barrier between the metal surface and the environment to minimize corrosion, contamination, and/or deposit formation. Thick-film coating: A pl

26、astic coating that has a final dry film thickness of 250 to 760 m (10 to 30 mil). Thin-film coating: A plastic coating that has a final dry film thickness of less than 250 m (10 mil). _ Section 3: Preliminary Requirements 3.1 The applicator shall furnish all labor, coating, and equipment to coat tub

27、ular goods and accessories internally in accordance with this standard. 3.2 In cases in which this standard is in conflict with the coating applicators specifications, the applicator must review conflicts with the user prior to the job startup. 3.3 The user reserves the right to inspect all IPC mate

28、rial and activities at any time and to reject any work that does not meet the requirements of this standard. 3.4 The applicator shall notify the user a minimum of 72 hours prior to the startup of coating operations, unless otherwise agreed between the user and applicator. 3.5 The user shall ensure t

29、hat all tubular goods and accessories supplied by the user meet applicable API,(1)ANSI,(2)ASTM,(3)and NACE standards. 3.6 The applicator shall provide the user with specifications addressing the application procedures for the coating being applied. 3.7 The user shall specify the level of holiday ins

30、pection of IPC tubular goods to be performed on all specified coated surfaces in accordance with one of the following levels: Level I: The tube body Level II: The tube body and pin-end chamfer Level III: The tube body, pin-end chamfer, and couplings _ (1)American Petroleum Institute (API), 1220 L St

SP0191-2008 2 NACE International 3.8 The user shall specify the holiday allowance for

32、each order of IPC material. 3.9 The user shall take all practical measures to provide material suitable for coating to the applicator. The pin ends on API 8-round1connections shall be bullet-nosed (rounded), leaving no sharp surfaces. Appendix A (mandatory) specifies dimensions for API 8-round bulle

33、t-nosed pin ends. 3.10 The applicator shall take all practical measures to identify unsuitable material prior to processing. 3.11 Appendix B (mandatory) lists inspection equipment required to perform inspection procedures. _ Section 4: Initial Inspection 4.1 The applicator shall inventory all tubula

34、r goods and accessories received, noting the following applicable information: (a) Number of pieces; (b) Approximate total length; (c) Indicated size, weight, grade, and range; (d) Type of connection; (e) Manufacturer; and (f) Type and number of thread protectors. 4.2 The applicator shall visually i

35、nspect all tubular goods and accessories for bent joints, out-of-round sections, damaged ends, and other obvious defects. Material exhibiting such defects shall be set aside and distinctly marked. 4.3 Tubular goods and accessories with non-API, proprietary premium connections may not be suitable for

36、 holiday-free coating application and should be reviewed with the connection manufacturer and applicator prior to coating. 4.4 Magnetism in the tubular goods and accessories that results in unacceptable accuracy of magnetic gauges used to measure the dry film thickness of the plastic coating shall b

37、e removed or altered to allow accurate thickness measurements. _ Section 5: Surface Preparation 5.1 Cleaning 5.1.1 Tubular goods shall be thermally cleaned. Accessories shall be thermally cleaned, solvent cleaned, or a combination of the two. Couplings shall be removed prior to cleaning. 5.1.2 Therm

38、al cleaning shall be performed by heating the material uniformly in an oven at 316 to 427 C (600 to 800 F) for a minimum of two hours. Metal temperature shall not exceed 427 C (800 F) for carbon steel; corrosion-resistant alloys may require different temperature limitations. Thermal-cleaning ovens s

39、hall be equipped with accurate temperature-monitoring equipment. 5.1.3 Solvent cleaning shall be performed in accordance with SSPC(4)-SP 1.25.1.4 Wet blasting may be used to clean material prior to thermal and/or solvent cleaning. 5.2 Abrasive Blasting 5.2.1 Subsequent to cleaning, tubular goods and

40、 accessories shall be dry abrasive blasted on 100% of the surface to be coated to NACE No. 1/SSPC-SP 5.35.2.2 Compressed air used in blasting and throughout the coating process shall be free of condensed water and oil. The applicator shall check the air system for these contaminants with a clean whi

41、te cloth or blotter a minimum of once every four hours. If contamination of the air system is indicated, all material coated since the last acceptable check shall be rejected. 5.2.3 Tubular goods and accessories shall be dry prior to abrasive blasting. Abrasive blasting shall not be performed when t

42、he metal surface temperature is less than 3 C (5 F) above the atmospheric dew point. When the relative humidity in the blast area is greater than 85%, the applicator shall measure the metal surface temperature and relative humidity and determine the dew point a minimum of once every hour. 5.2.4 The surface profile shall

44、 be 25 to 76 m (1.0 to 3.0 mil). The surface profile shall be measured a minimum of once every four hours. Measurement of surface profiles using replica tape is outlined in NACE Standard RP0287.45.2.5 API pin ends shall be blasted by means that do not cause detrimental effects to the threads. API co

45、uplings shall be blasted separately by means that do not cause detrimental effects to the threads. 5.2.6 Surface preparation procedures for premium connections shall be in accordance with the connection manufacturers recommendations. 5.2.7 Abrasive-blasted surfaces shall be cleaned of all blast prod

46、ucts with contaminant-free compressed air (see Paragraph 5.2.2) prior to plastic coating application. 5.2.8 Abrasive-blasted surfaces shall be coated within one hour of blasting if exposed to ambient climate conditions or within two hours of blasting if stored in a controlled environment of less tha

47、n 25% relative humidity. 5.2.9 The surface to be coated shall be visually inspected with a high-intensity light after it has been abrasive blasted. Tubular goods shall be inspected from both ends. Tubular goods or accessories that contain mill scale, corrosion products, old coating, or other foreign matter shall be reblasted and reinspected. In no case shall the plastic coating be applied if rusting or discoloration is evident. 5.2.10 New or used tubular good
