ORGANIC COATED SHEET AND STRIP 1.0 SCOPE Part III of this specification covers the Companys r
6、equirements for organic coated steel sheet and strip products. 2.0 APPLICATION This specification covers the requirements for organic coated steel sheet and strip products, and describes a system for specifying these products on engineering drawings. Organic coatings are designated by GRADE for each
7、 type of coating. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced sta

Organic coatings will be identified according to Grades as shown in Table I for all Navistar products. NUMBER: MPAPS

12、 sheet steel furnished shall conform to limits established for the Grade, Type, and quality of the sheet or strip specified on the Engineering drawing and/or purchase order, as described in MPAPS A-6, Part I. 4.3 Base Metal Metallic Coated If the pre-painted sheet is also required to have a metallic
13、 coating (e.g., galvanized), the coated sheet will be required to meet the applicable requirements of MPAPS A-6, Part II. 4.4 Organic Coating Class And Requirements 4.4.1 Weldable Pre-Prime Coating 4.4.1.1 Grade 1PPW This is a pre-painted sheet steel product with a weldable primer coated onto the ex
14、posed surface of the sheet. A wash coat or backer coat is applied to the unexposed side of the sheet to provide minimal corrosion protection in storage and handling and lubrication during roll forming. 4.4.1.1.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement Weldable Primer The weldable primer consists of an orga
15、nic coating meeting the dry film performance requirements of the Class IIP finish as per MPAPS G-9009, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 4.4.1.1.2 Dry Film Performance Requirement Wash Coat The wash coat consists of a thin organic coating meeting the dry film performa
16、nce requirements of the Class IIC finish as per MPAPS G-9009, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 4.4.1.1.3 Weldability Parts fabricated with the weldable primer coated sheet steel will meet all quality and performance requirements described in MPAPS P-9516 for spot wel
17、ded assemblies. The weldable primer must be compatible with all plant welding processes in use at the receiving manufacturing plant. 4.4.1.1.4 Spot Prime Requirement Spot welds on the weldable primer coated sheet steel should be spot primed in order to enhance corrosion resistance, if the full prime

20、the dry film performance requirements of the Class IIP finish as per MPAPS G-9009, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 4.4.1.2.2 Weldability Parts fabricated with the weldable primer coated sheet steel will meet all quality and performance requirements described in MPAP
21、S P-9516 for spot welded assemblies. The weldable primer must be compatible with all plant welding processes in use at the receiving manufacturing plant. 4.4.1.2.3 Spot Prime Requirement Spot welds on the weldable primer coated sheet steel should be spot primed in order to enhance corrosion resistan
22、ce, if the full prime is not going to be applied. 4.4.2 Grade 1PPX This is a pre-painted sheet steel product with a corrosion resistant primer coated onto the exposed surface of the sheet. 25、 sheet steel product with a corrosion resistant primer coated onto both the exposed and the unexposed surfaces of the sheet. This product offers optimal corrosion resistance in severe service. 4.4.3.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement Primer The primer consists of an organic coating on both the top a
26、nd bottom surfaces of the steel sheet. This primer will meet the dry film performance requirements (both sides) of the MPAPS G-9009 Class IP, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 4.4.4 Grade 1P&TC This is a pre-painted sheet steel product with a corrosion resistant prime
27、r and a topcoat coated onto the exposed surface of the sheet. A wash coat or backer coat is applied to the unexposed side of the sheet to provide minimal corrosion protection in storage and handling and lubrication during roll forming. 4.4.4.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement Primer and Topcoat The
28、primer and topcoat consist of two separate organic coatings. The combined coatings will meet the dry film performance requirements of the Class IB finish as per MPAPS G-9009, except min dry film thickness is not required. 4.4.4.2 Exposed Surface Protection A strippable-waxed coating or plastic film
29、to prevent damage to the finished surface during normal handling and storage procedures and during subsequent forming and fabricating or painting operations will be applied to protect the exposed surface. The protective coating/film must be readily removable, and removal of the film must have no det

32、rformance Requirement Primer The primer consists of an organic coating on the bottom or unexposed surface of the steel sheet. This primer will meet the dry film performance requirements of MPAPS G-9009 Class IIP 4.4.5.2 Dry Film Performance Requirement Primer and Topcoat The primer and topcoat consi
33、st of two separate organic coatings. The combined coatings will meet the dry film performance requirements of the Class IIA finish (except min film thickness) as per MPAPS G-9009. 4.4.5.3 Exposed Surface Protection A strippable-waxed coating or plastic film to prevent damage to the finished surface
34、during normal handling and storage procedures and during subsequent forming and fabricating or painting operations will be applied to protect the exposed surface. The protective coating/film must be readily removable, and removal of the film must have no detrimental effect upon the appearance of the
35、 exposed surface. 5.0 QUALITY The supplier should be able to provide certification that product supplied to this specification meets the applicable requirements defined in this specification. The supplier should be capable of providing statistical evidence that the material supplied has been manufac
36、tured within process control limits established by the supplier for this product and that the process is capable of meeting all requirements of this specification. 5.1 Surface Condition Coated sheet and strip products will be free from injurious defects such as blisters and bare spots detrimental to
37、 fabrication and/or function of the part. The material identified by an E suffix (exposed parts) shall be free from such surface defects as might adversely affect the ability to obtain a uniform painted appearance satisfactory for the intended purpose. In all cases the base metal shall conform to su
38、rface condition requirements of MPAPS A-6 Part I. If the material is also metallic-coated, the material shall also meet the surface condition requirements of MPAPS A-6 Part II. Unacceptable surface defects include, but are not limited to, runs, sags scratches, zinc/aluminum stringers, coarse coating
39、 or zinc/aluminum ridges, zinc/aluminum flakes. Unacceptable base metal surface defects include rolled-in scale, skin laminations, coil breaks, edge breaks, chatter marks, fluting, friction digs, holes, slivers, coarse grain (orange peel), pinchers, ragged edges, rolled in dirt, or stretcher strain
40、and other defects defined within SAE J810. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all A
41、IAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or p
42、urchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. 44、cessing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify NAVISTAR Materials Engineering and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and n
45、ew or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 gu
46、idelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements
47、on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING AND HANDLING Shipping and identification shall be in accordance with NAVISTAR Manufacturing Standard MS-D-13. Parts shall be packaged so as to avoid any damage in shipment detrimental to the appearance of the part. 8.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS 8.1 Designation on Dra
48、wings Material designations will consist of the steel grade (per MPAPS A-6, Part I), the metallic coating designation (per MPAPS A-6, Part II) as applicable, and organic coating Grade designation as per this specification.
