11、nce with LD 419707 and all documents listed thereon, 3,2 Material, All materials used in the manufacture of the delay Cartridges shall conform strictly with the specification referred to on the respective Bureau of Naval Weapons drawings unless specific approval in writing covering a departure there

12、from has been obtained from the Navy design activity prior to manufacture, materials or methods of manufacture are specified on the drawings, the bidders selections shall be clearly stated in the proposal, When alternate 3,2,1 Preproduction sample, Unless otherwise specified by the . procuring activ

13、ity, a preproduction sample of 76 MARK 35 MOD O delay cartridges shall be manufactured using the same methods and procedures proposed for the production lot, tested as specified in 4,3,2 and is for the purpose of determining that the contractorb prior to starting production, is capable of manufactur

15、pellant charge, the gasless ignition powder and the manganese delay composition are defined as primary components, See 4,3,3, 3,4 Primer, delay cartridge shall be manufactured in accordance with Army Ordnance Drawing 8799925, loaded with Remington Arms primer mixture styphnate composition No, 50860

16、and accepted in accordance with the requirements of MIL-P-20444, The primers shall be from lots manufactured within a year past, See 407010 The M42 percussion primer used in the MARK 35 MOD O 3,4,1 Primer X-ray, All primers shall be X-rayed and screened for defects as prescribed in 4,7,2, 3,5 Mangan

17、ese delay composition, The manganese delay composition shall be accepted in accordance with requirements of MIL-M-21383 and loaded into.the cartridge as specified on Bureau of Naval Weapons Drawing 2230818 of LD 419707, 3,6 Gasless ignition powder, The A-IA gasless ignition powder shall be accepted

18、in accordance with the provisions of MIL-P-22264 and loaded into the cartridge as specified on Bureau of Naval Weapons Drawing 2230818 of LD 419707, 3,7 Propellant charge, 3,7,1 Quantitp Al propellant: and booster charges shall be as specified on Bureau of Naval Weapons Drawing 2164483 of LD 419707,

19、 Charges shall be determined by weight rather than by volume measurements, 3,7,2 Smokeless powdero handling and loading, Do not: subject the smokeless powder to unnecessary handling or exposure to the atmosphere, to the atmosphere shall be performed only under conditions that do not permit the relat

20、ive humidity to exceed 75 percent, The handling and loading of smokeless powder exposed 3,7,3 Smokeless powder condition, The smokeless powder utilized shall exhibit no evidence of decomposition, See 4,7,3, 3,7,4 Change of propellant lot, Whenever a change occurs in the propellant lot for the main c

21、harge, a new charge determination shall be made by performing the test prescribed in 4,90 4 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-3,8 Cartridge inspection, 3,8.1 Visual inspection, The complete cartridge shall be free of visible defects not

22、ed in 4,7,4. 3-8+2 Leakage, There shall be no leakage of air in the completed cartridge, See 4,7,5, 3,8,3 X-ray, All cartridges manufactured under contract shall pass X-ray examination of 4,7,6, 3,9 Ballistic requirements, Cartridges from each production lot, selected in accordance with 4,7,7,1, sha

23、ll meet the requirements listed below when subjected to the test prescribed in 4,7070 3,9,1 Delay time, The Upper (U) and Lower (L) limits of delay time shall be U = 0.750 second and L = 0,500 second, See 4,7,7,2,1, 3,902 Maximum pressure, The Lower (L) limit of maximum pressure shall be 750 psi for

24、 a minimum of 0,020 second at Points A and B of Figure 1. See 4,7,7,2,2, 3.9,3 Misfire, There shall be no misfires, See 40707030 3,lO Workmanship, Cartridges shall be constructed and finished in a manner to assure compliance with all requirements of this specification, finishes and coatings, Particu

25、lar attention should be directed to dimensions, 4, QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4-1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein, Except as otherwise specified, the supplier may utiliz

26、e his own facilities or any commercial laboratory acceptable to the Government, The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements, 4,2 Sampl

27、ing, Unless otherwise specified, and when applicable, the sampling plans and procedures used in the determination of the acceptability of products submitted by a supplier shall he in accordance with Table I, General Inspection Level II of MIL-STD-105, Unless otherwise specified in the contract, orde

28、r or requisition, all samples for test purposes shall be provided at the expense of the contractor, Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-4,3,1 Inspection lots, Inspection lot definition, formation and size shall be in accordance with MIL-S

29、TD-105, 4,3,2 Preproduction sample, Before entering into quantity production, an acceptable preproduction sample of 76 MARK 35 MOD O delay cartridges shall be prepared, Of these cartridges, 66 shall be expended in the tests listed below and ten shall be retained for investigative purposes, A preprod

30、uction sample acceptable for environmental and ballistic testing shall be defined as a sample which has met the requirements of paragraphs 3,l through 3,8 of this specification, The contractor shall delfver-the delay cartridges to the activity designated by the contracting agency for test, environme

31、ntal tests to be performed on the preproduction sample and the number of delay cartridges required for each test are8 shock (6) vibration (6) 14 days temperature and humidity cycling (18) o These cartridges, subsequent to exposure to the environmental tests described in MIL-D-21625, are to be condit

32、ioned for a minimum of 6 hours at +70F + 5F together with 12 new-cartridges that received no previous envirnmental conditioning and fired in accordance with 4,7,7,1, In addition, 12 delay cartridges each shall be conditioned for 12 hours at -65OF + 5F and +160F + 5OF and fired as prescribed in 4,7 o

34、15 g“ Acceptance of preproduc- Any quantity prduction The preproduction 4,3,3 Production lot, The suggested production lot size is 151 minimum and 500 maximum delay cartridges, for all test purposes shall be selected from the production lot and will not be applied as a part of the quantity specified

35、 for delivery by the contract, Only primary components from a single lot shall be used in a production lot of cartridges, production lot may be used in more than one cartridge production lot, Cartridges selected for the ballistic test shall be delivered to the activity designated by the contracting

36、agency, Cartridges required One prhnary component 4,4 Gages, The contractor shall provide himself with gages as necessary to insure that the material to which this specification applies will meet the dimensional requirements shown on the applicable drawings o I 6 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo repr

The characteristics verified by the tests and examinations herein are classified as Critical, Major or Minor in accordance with WR-43,. Tests and examinations that verify critical characteristics are

38、 identified by the symbol (Cl and major characteristics by the symbol (MIo symbol indicates the serial number of test or examination, examinations which are not annotated with a classification code are classified minor. (M103) The inspector shall ascertain that the packing and packaging of the cartridges and the container markings conform to Section 5 of this document, 4.7 Tests, - 7 4 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduc

42、tion or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-Y 4,7,1 Primer verification, Verification shall be obtained that the primers to be used were manufactured within a year past, and were furnished from lots certified by the supplier to have been loaded as specified in 3,4 and accepted in accor

43、dance with the provisions of MIL-P-20444, 4,7,2 Primer X-ray, Primers should be mounted in suitable grooved racks, on their side with the anvil cutouts vertical, may be used as an aid in positioning the primers, questionable from any standpoint, especially for: cracked or off- center anvils: anvil a

44、bnormally close to primer cap dome; charge missing or abnormally thing charge broken, cracked or porous, For the most revealing exposure, the primers are laid Pressure-sensitive tape Reject any that are 4,7,3 Smokeless powder condition, Smokeless powder shall be inspected in accordance with the appl

45、icable portions of paragraphs 1308-1318 and 1322 of OP 5, for rejection , Evidence of decomposition shall be cause 4,7,4 Cartridge inspection, Examine all cartridges and reject fora dents, deep scratcheso split or cracked edges, chipping or flaking of the anodized finish, sharp edges, primer not pro

46、perly crimped in place or other defects which may conceivably prevent entry into the firing chamber or affect the stability or resistance to moisture, 4,7,5 Leakage, Each cartridge in the preproduction sample and ballistic sample will be leak tested in a dry gas leak tester, Cartridges which exhibit

47、 a leak rate in excess of cc/sec of air at a pressure differential of 1,O atmosphere 2 0,l atmosphere shall be considered defective, If one or more cartridges of the ballistic sample leak, then a leak test of each cartridge of the lot being tested shall be required, If a 100 percent leak test of the

48、 lot is required, it shall be at the expense of the contractor, Cartridges which exhibit a Peak rate in excess of that specified above shall be rejected, 4,7,6 Examine all cartridges by X-ray and any observable imperfections in assembly shall be cause for rejection, X-ray plates may be destroyed aft
