2、all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 ScoDe. This specification covers automatic temperature regulating valves for steam, water, and other fluid service where accurate temperature control of fluid is required. These valves are of the self-operated type requiring no
3、external power supply such as oil, water, steam, electricity, or compressed gas for their operation. However, when the fail safe mode is required (see 6.2) , it can be externally powered. 1.2 Classification. Automatic temperature regulating valves are of the following types, classes, and series as s
4、pecified (see 6.2) : Type I - Direct operated 3-way valves - series 100, 150. Type II - Direct operated 2-way valves. Class 1 - Direct acting (heating service) - series 100, 150. Class 2 - Reverse acting (cooling service) - series 100, 150, 250, 700. Type III - Pilot operated 2-way valves. Class 1 -

Automatic temperature regulating valves furnished under this specification shall be products which are authorized by the qualifying activity for listing on the applicable qualified pro
26、ducts list at the time set for contract award (see 4.2 and 6.4). 3.2 Materials. Materials shall be as specified in table I and 3.2.1 through 3.2.2. Materials shall be selected to prevent galling, seizing, or excessive wear between parts. Clearance shall be such as to prevent interference due to ther

The internal trim (valve stem, seat ring and plug)
31、for ferrous valves (series 150, 400, and 600) shall be corrosion-resisting steel. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.21, the seating and flow controlling surfaces on the seat ring and disc (main valve only) shall be hardfaced (see 3.3.11). Materials used for the internal trim of nonferrous valves (se
32、ries 100 and 250) shall be as follows: For valves used in fresh water service, materials shall be bronze, corrosion-resisting steel, and nickel-copper alloy. For valves used in steam service, valve discs shall be of 400 series corrosion-resisting steel (hardened to 500 Brinell minimum) and seats sha
33、ll be hardfaced unless otherwise approved (see 6.7). 34、aterial shall be nickel-copper alloy. The specification for nickel-copper alloy is not intended to limit the choice to basic monel alloy, but rather is intended to permit the use of the most suitable grade of nickel-copper alloy for each particular application (for example, S-monel and K-monel would
35、 be considered to be nickel-copper alloy). The proper grades of the materials specified above, for use in both ferrous and nonferrous valves, shall be chosen to have the necessary strength, hardness, and nongalling properties to prevent distortion, galling, or excessive wear between operating parts.
36、 3.2.2 External thermal bulb. The material for the external thermal bulb shall be copper for fresh water, copper or carbon steel for lube oil service, carbon steel or corrosion-resisting steel for fuel oil service, and nickel-copper alloy for sea water service. 3.2.3 Recovered materials. Unless othe
37、rwise specified herein, all equipment, material, and articles incorporated in the products covered by this specification shall be new and may be fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered m
38、aterials“ means materials which have been collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as opposed to virgin raw materials. None of the above shall be interpreted to mean that the use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under this specification unles
39、s otherwise specifically specified. 3.3 Construction. Valve construction shall be as specified in 3.3.1 through 3.3.20 (see 6.3) . 3.3.1 Pressure-temperature ratinss. When an odd number of bolts is used, the vertical center line at the top of the flange shall be straddled.
43、3.3.2.1 Type II and type III series 100 valves and type II series 250 valves in sizes up to and including 2 inches shall be union end. Type I valves in sizes up to and including 2 inches may be union end or flanged (see 6.2). Other valves shall be flanged. The 1/4 and 3/8 inch type II valves shall b
44、e furnished with 1/2 inch end connections. 3.3.3 Accessibility. With the exception of type I valves, valves shall be accessible for adjustment, repair, or replacement of internal trim, including the thermal element, without requiring removal of the valve from the line (see 6.8) . 3.3.4 CaDillarv tub
45、inq. The capillary tubing shall be covered throughout the entire length with a flexible bronze, brass, or corrosion-resisting steel armor constructed so the armored tubing can be coiled to 6 inch diameter without plastic deformation. At the point where the tubing joins the bulb and the valve, the tu
46、bing shall be reinforced with an additional layer of armor for a distance not less than.5 inches, constructed so this section can be bent to not less than 7 inch diameter to prevent kinking or mechanical failure at this point. Once bent or coiled, the armored tubing shall hold it shape without mecha
47、nical restraint. The armor shall be smoothly finished and free from all mechanical defects. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order, the length of the capillary tubing between the bulb and the valve body shall be 10 feet. 3.3.5 Thermal media. The media employed in the thermal element sha
48、ll have no detrimental effect on the material with which it comes in contact, and shall have no detrimental effect to personnel who may be exposed to it upon leakage or failure of the element. 3.3.6 Bellows. Bellows, where employed, shall be of a seamless type. Connections shall be hermetically seal
