10、d, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.4 and 6.2.1). 3.2 Material. Humidity indicator cards shall consist of smooth blotting paper impregnated with a chemical soluton which shall changecolor to indicate humid! ty due to $he presence of water-vapor. 3.2.1 Component material
11、s. 3.2.1.1 Blottlng paper. The blotting paper shall be made from fibrous, cellulosic material which may include reclalmed fiber. The blotting paper shall also meet the requirements in Table I. 3.2.1.2 Chemical impregnant. The impregnant shall be a solutlon of chemically pure cobaltous chloride in di
12、stilled water; No addi tive shall be used except for spots manufactured to change color over 50 and under 20 percent relative humidity (R.H.) (see 6.2). The apparatus shall consist of a mixing chamber and volume of one. cubic foot. In the mixing chamber tw
15、o * stream9 f air, -one saturated and one dry, shall be admitted in proportions necessary to develop the desired relative humidity in the chamber. One stream of air shill be-saturated by bubbling the air throgh distilled water before admission;to th4 mlxlhg chamber. The other stream of air shall be
16、dried by passing te air-through a bed of activated silica gel before admission to the mixing chgmber. Adjustable valves on each of the air lines shallcontrol the proportior$ of dry and saturated air admitted to thP ,chamber. The relative humidity df the air leaving the mlxing bhamber shall be determ
17、ined by means of a calibrated humidity-sensing element and an electric hygrometer or an equivalent. After passing over the humid-ity-sensing element, air of the desired relative humidity shall be passed through the test chamber. The test chamber shall be so constructed as to afford a clear view of t
18、he inside, and of the ind-lcating cards undergoing the test wi thin it, If opaqueor -translucent, the test chamber shall have a sufficientlylarge window to permit observation of the cards inside. 4.8.1.2 Procedure. The samples under test shall be suspended in the test chamber in such a manner as to
19、be visible from the. outslde. Air at a relative humidity of 5 2 1 percent below the relative humidity critical for the indicating spot being tested, and at a temperature. of 73.5 2 2F, shall be admi tted to the test chamber and allowed to pass over the suspended samples for one hour at a rate of 8 0
20、.2 1 i ters per minute. At the end of thi s period the spot under test shall be visually examined for conformance to the ) requirements as specified in 3.4. Evidence of mottling or divergence from the specified blue color shall be cause for rejection. Air at a relative humidity of 5 2 1 percent abov

The following test method may be subs
23、tituted for the dynamic test specified in 4.8.1.2. The samDles under test shall be placed in a static relative humidity atmbsphere of 5 1 percent below the critical relative humidity for the indicating spot (at 73.5 2 2F). The samples shall remain In the static atmosphere for 48 hours. This test sha
24、ll be repeated at a relative humid!ty of 5 + 1 percent above the critical relative humidity. Place 3 unit containers of humidity indicatihg cards .in a test chamber maintained at a te
25、mperature of i60 2 5F. -The. pptainers shall remain at thi s temperature for 24 hours. The containers sihall %hen bj! removed and placed in a test chamber maintained at -65 2 5F. :After;24 hoprs exposure at this temperature the containers shall betremved 2nd again exkosed at 160 2 5F temperature for

Place 10 humidity cards in a desiccator containing a glycerine waiter sQlutioh having aspecific gravity of 1m.184 at 77 2 2F to effect an atisphcfre of -60 2 2 percent relative humidity. The size and shape of the can shall be selected so that the void of the cans, when fi 1 led wi th the specified number of cards, shall be a minimum and not exceed 5% of the capaci ty of the can. 5.1.2 Level A. Cards shall be preserved without folding i
31、n cans 5.1.3 Commercial. Cards shall be preserved in accordance with ASTM D 3951. 5.2 Packing. Cards .,preserved as specffled in 5.1.2 shall be packed in - 8 accordance with the Appendix of PPP-C-96 as specified for overseas shipment. . 5.2.2 Level B. Cards packaged as specifled in 5.1.2 shall be packed in accordance wi th the Append1 x of Spec
33、i f ication PPP-C-96 as speci f led for domestic shipment. 5.2.3 Commercial. The indicators shall be packed in accordance with ASTM D 3951. 5.3 Marking 5.3.1 Unit container. Each unit container shall be durably and legibly marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129 and wlth the following information, in
