7、79706 0101663 T M 3 d REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Materials. - The varnish shall be formulated from the following materials which shall conform to their related specifications: Resin, para-phenyl, phenol-formaldehyde of Tung oil of TT-T-775 Solvent (Xylene of TT-X-916 or a mixture of xylene Lead and cobalt nap
8、hthenate driers of TT-D-643 MIL-R-15184 with not more than 40 percent petroleum spirits) 3.2 Formulations. - The Type A and B varnishes shall be formulated using the quantities of materials specified in Table I. The compounding of each type shall be in accordance with 6.3 and material verification s

14、ned, the varnish in the containers shall be clean,.homogeneous, and free from a skin, grit, seeds, and sediment. 3.4.2 Skinninq. - The varnish shall show no skinning after 48 hours in a tightly closed, half-filled container. 3.4.3 Storage stability. - Varnish shall be clear, homogeneous, free from p
15、articles (grit, seeds, and sediment) and shall meet all other requirements of this specification for a period of one year after manufacture when tested in accordance with 4.3. 3.5 Preservation and packaging. - The preservation and packaging of the varnish shall be in accordance with Section 5 when i

QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. - Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is respo
17、nsible for performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may utilize his own facilities or any commercial laboratory acceptable- to the Government. The Government reserves the right to p.erform any inspections set
18、 forth in the specification or drawings where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed require- ments. 4.2 Quality assurance. - Quality assurance.shal1 be provided in accordance with Method 1031 of FED. TEST -METHOD STD 141. Forms submitted in accor
19、dance with Method 1031 shall cover complete tests other than the one year storage stability test. The storage stability requirement shall apply for one year after manufacture regardless of other testing or prior acceptance of the.materia1. 4.3 Test procedures. - Requirements of this specification sh
20、all be verified in accordance with the test procedures of Table III. The numerically-designated test methods are those of FED. Any action by the Government to disqualify varni
23、sh after. prior acceptance shall be based on the examination of-varnish stored in its original containers. For the purpose of developing a quality history of the suppliers! varnish, the Government shall allow, in accordance with Method 3022 of FED. TEST METHOD .Sm. 141, a full one-quart can of varni

PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 P
25、ackaging and packing. - The varnish shall be packaged and packed in accordance with TT-P-143. The level of packaging shall be A or C, and the level of packing shall be A, B, or C as specified (see 6.2). . The size and type of the container shall be as specified (see 6.2). 5.2 Marking. - In addition
26、to any special marking reqirements specified in the contract or order, .the containers shall be marked in accordance with TT-P-143 and contain an appropriate warning label. The warning label shall be of appropriate size and similar to Class 2 of MIL-STD-755 or shall be lithographed or stenciled with
27、 a reasonable likeness thereof . Under “contains“ insert “Xylene and Solvents“. 6. NOTES 6.1 Intended use. - The varnish.covered by this specification is intended for use in the sealing and moisture- proofing of surfaces of small explosive devices. When fully cured, it provides a hard, abrasive resi

Hold the temperature at 450F for approximately 25 min
30、utes to obtain proper bodying. Cool to 350F to 375F and thin with the required solvent. When Type B varnish is specified, add the naphthenate driers after thinning. 6.4 Specifica.tion information. - .This specification is under the technical cognizance of the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, Silver Spring
