11、ding Code, Aluminum3. REQUIREMENTS:3.1 First Article Sample:Before starting production, a sample of the finished stand shall be submitted for approval. Theapproval of the first article sample does not relieve the supplier of responsibility for compliancewith all applicable provisions of this documen

12、t during subsequent production.3.2 Materials:Materials to be used in stand shall be identified on drawings and specifications. Materials whichare not covered by specifications or which are not specifically described shall be of the lightestpractical weight and entirely suitable to meet all performan

13、ce requirements. Unless specificmaterials are identified in Section 6, any suitable material may be considered for the primarystand construction.3.2.1 Metals: Metal components shall be corrosion resistant or suitably processed to resist corrosion.Dissimilar metals as defined in MIL-STD-889 shall not

14、 be used in intimate contact unlesssuitably protected against electrolytic corrosion. When it is necessary that any combination ofsuch dissimilar metals be assembled, an interposing material compatible with each should beused. Cadmium plated parts shall not be in intimate contact with the contained

15、item. Materialsand processes shall be selected to prevent galling.3.2.2 Plastics: Plastics which meet or exceed the performance and quality assurance provisions ofthis specification may be used. Special consideration shall be given to assure the adequacy ofthe data package for purposes of reprocurem

16、ent. For example, the plastic materials,reinforcements, and the location of the reinforcements shall be completely defined. Essentialprocess specifications shall be included in the data package.SAE ARP4898- 3 -3.2.3 Standard, Commercial, and Qualified Parts: Standard, commercial, and qualified parts

17、 shall beused to the maximum extent, consistent with reliability, maintainability, and performance. Commercial utility parts such as screws, bolts, nuts, and cotter pins with suitable propertiesmay be used provided they can be replaced by the standard parts (MS and AN) withoutalteration; correspondi

18、ng standard part numbers are referenced in the parts list on thecontractors drawings; and commercial parts have passed environmental tests to ensure qualitythroughout the life cycle of the container.3.2.4 Data Package: The procuring activity shall specify conceptual, developmental, or productdrawing

19、s/data IAW MIL-T-31000 (see Section 6).3.3 Design and Construction:3.3.1 Internal Component Parts:3.3.1.1 Mounting Provisions: Each stand shall include all necessary interior supports, fixtures, andattachments to receive and secure the contained item(s), individual mounting provisions orsupports for

20、 designated accessories, and provisions for storing detachable hardware duringshipment of an empty stand. The fasteners shall be single action self-contained devices. Adeviation to use threaded fasteners may be allowed provided that these threaded fastenersused in the primary support structure shall

21、 be of the self-locking type with nonmetallic inserts.Safety wire shall be used only if the configuration of the component precludes self-lockingfasteners.3.3.1.2 Accessibility: The stand shall be designed so as to provide ready accessibility to the interiorsupports and shall permit the installation

22、 and removal of the item by means of overhead liftingdevices through a sequence of simple operations.3.3.1.3 Vibration and Shock Isolation: The stand shall be designed so as to prevent damage to theitem resulting from the tests of Section 4. Maximum allowable transmissibility and “G“ levelsimposed o

23、n the items by the tests of Section 4 shall be as described in the contract orpurchase order (see Section 6). If consistent with the shock requirements and other designconsiderations, the recommended resonant frequency of the loaded suspended system in themajor translational modes of vibration shoul

24、d be between 7 Hz and 10 Hz.3.3.1.4 Isolators: If elastomeric isolators are used, each isolator shall be marked with its date ofmanufacture. This date shall be visible when the mount is installed. Elastomeric materialsused in isolation mounts shall be capable of meeting the ozone and air-heat aging

25、testspecified in MIL-STD-648.3.3.3 Stand Assembly:3.3.3.1 Permanent Joints: All permanent fittings, seams, and joints, affecting structural stability of thestand, shall be welded, brazed, or bonded.3.3.3.2 Cover Installation: As required by procuring agency and subject to standard oversize loadrestr

26、ictions.SAE ARP4898- 4 -3.3.3.2.1 Cover Fastenings: Cover fasteners shall be either hand operated or require the use of onlycommon hand tools, excluding torque wrenches, to open and close the cover. The closurefasteners if captivated to the cover section of the container shall not sustain damage whe

27、nthe cover is removed and placed on the floor in its normal attitude. The type of fastenershall be selected and specified (see Section 6) by the procuring agency, with considerationof the anticipated service environment. Some options are:a. Hand Operated Self-Contained Latches: These latches include

28、 overcenter, cam action,and/or spring-loaded configurations. They are convenient to use and produceconsistent clamping force and cannot be misplaced or lost but may not be readilyreplaceable if damaged. Physical protection by recessing or shielding is required toprevent damage during normal handling

29、.b. Self-Contained/Captive Threaded Fasteners: These cannot be misplaced or lost, butmust be wrenched, and may not be readily replaceable if damaged.c. Nuts and Bolts (Noncaptive): These can be readily replaced if damaged, but must bewrenched, and might be misplaced or lost.3.3.3.2.2 If a cover is n

30、ot specified, then cargo tie down nets may not be used.3.3.3.2.3 Installation Time: The time required to remove and reinstall the item and prepare the standfor shipment shall be the minimum practical.3.3.4 Handling Provisions: Features provided for lifting, tie down, and towing shall be combinedwher

31、ever practical or as specified by the procuring activity (see Section 6).3.3.4.1 Lifting Ring, Eyes, or Lugs: Lifting rings, eyes, or lugs capable of withstanding the testsprescribed herein without failure or visible permanent distortion shall be provided for lifting thestand or major sections there

32、of with chains, hooks, or by a single overhead hook. Theserings, eyes, or lugs shall be located so as to permit the container to be lifted withoutsignificant deviation from the normal storage attitude. Rings, eyes, or lugs, when not in use,shall not project beyond the envelope of the stand. Rings an

33、d eyes shall have a minimumopening in accordance with MIL-STD-209.3.3.4.1.1 Stand Lifting: Provisions for four point suspension of loaded rectangular stands shall belocated on the stand base for all stands that exceed 68 kg (150 lb) loaded gross weight.3.3.4.1.2 Cover/Section Lifting: Provisions for

34、 cover lifting shall be provided. Manual liftingprovisions shall be provided when the cover/section weight and lift height are in accordancewith MIL-STD-1472 unless otherwise specified.3.3.4.2 Tie Down/Towing Provisions: Tie down/towing provisions shall be provided on the base andshall have a minimu

35、m opening in accordance with MIL-STD-209. The load-carrying capacityshall be in accordance with a 5.8.4 of MIL-STD-648. There shall be a minimum of two tiedown provisions on each of the longest sides and a minimum of one tie down provision ineach end of containers wider than 1524 mm (60 in). Tie dow

36、n/towing provisions, when not inuse, shall not project beyond the envelope of the container.SAE ARP4898- 5 -3.3.4.3 Lateral Indexing: The stand side interfaces shall be such that no additional dunnage isrequired for transport loading and securing. The stand shall have no features that interferewith

37、placement in row storage of stacked containers.3.3.4.4 Forklifting: Forklift pockets in accordance with MIL-STD-648, paragraph 4.17.6 shall beprovided on all stands. Forklift pockets shall be provided on each end of the stand exceptwhen the center of gravity is more than 1397 mm (55 in) from the end

38、, that end shall have nopockets. The pockets shall be fully enclosed across the openings and shall provide guidanceof the fork tines to achieve safe entry.3.4 Design Considerations:3.4.1 Section Assembly: Alignment guides shall be provided to facilitate assembly of major sectionsof the stand. If maj

39、or sections of the stand must be assembled in only one relative position,they shall be furnished with alignment guide(s) which will permit assembly in only that onerelative position.3.4.2 Interchangeability: All subassemblies and parts, including covers and bases, which can beremoved during use, mai

40、ntenance, or refurbishment shall be directly and completelyinterchangeable.3.4.3 Welding: Welding should be in accordance with ANSI/AWS D1.1 and D1.2.3.5 Stand Size:Unless otherwise specified (see Section 6) the size of the stand shall be the minimum consistentwith the size of the contents and the p

41、erformance requirements of this specification. The internalarrangement must provide clearance for the movement of the items as permitted by the isolationsystem.3.6 Weight:The stand shall be of the minimum practical weight consistent with the performance requirementsof this specification.3.7 Finish:3

42、.7.1 Basic Finishes: All stand components shall be finished in accordance with MIL-STD-808 exceptthat the use of trichloroethane CO-T-620 is prohibited and CAD plate is not allowed on surfacesthat contact the engine or module and shall not be used. As-molded finishes which meet orexceed the MIL-STD-

43、808 requirement for protection need not be painted.3.7.2 Color: Unless otherwise specified (see Section 6) the stand shall be olive drab, color number34087 of FED-STD-595.SAE ARP4898- 6 -3.7.3 Chemical Agent Resistant Coating: For stands requiring chemical agent resistant coating, allsteel surfaces,

44、 except threaded and other working surfaces, shall be painted with one coat ofprimer conforming to MIL-P-53022 or MIL-P-53030. All aluminum alloy surfaces should bepainted with one coat of primer conforming to MIL-P-23377 Type I. All the primed exteriorsurfaces and skids should be painted with two c

45、oats of paint conforming to MIL-C-46168,Type II, color green 383. Other finishes may be used if they comply with 3.6.10, 3.6.11, 3.6.14,and 3.6.15 of MIL-C-46168. In addition to the marking requirements of 3.9. the letters “CARC“shall be marked in 25.4 mm (1 in) letters in an area as near as practic

46、able to the nameplate. Paint conforming to MIL-C-46168, Type II, color black, shall be used for all marking.3.8 Performance:3.8.1 Ability of the Stand to Withstand Handling: When tested in accordance with the requirementsof Section 4, the container and all accessories shall sustain no damage that wo

47、uld affect theutility of the container or impair its performance.3.8.2 Ability of Stand to Protect Item: When tested in accordance with the requirements of Section 4,the item shall show no damage. Shock loads transmitted to the item(s) must be within thefragility limits specified (see Section 6).3.9

48、 Markings:Markings shall be of waterproof ink, paint, or decal. Ink shall conform to A-A-208. Paint shallconform to TT-E-527 or TT-E-529, or equivalent, for standard finishes and MIL-C-46168, Type II,color black for CARC finishes. Markings shall be of a contrasting color. The following markingsshall

49、 be applied to all stands at the locations and in the sizes indicated unless impractical, inwhich case markings may be reduced or increased in proportion to the size of the container.a. Adjacent to the lifting rings, eyes, or lugs in 45 mm to 51 mm (1.75 to 2 in) letters:(1) Tie down/lift hereArrows 5 in long shall point to the rings, eyes, or lugs.b. On opposite sides of the upper section of the container, corresponding to lift-truck openingson the skids, in 45 to 51 mm (1.75 to 2 in) letters:(1) Reusable Stand - Do Not Destroy(2) Do Not Dropc.
