This Add

、endum was developed by TIA Subcommittee TR-42.1. Approval of this Addendum This Addendum was approved by TIA Subcommittee TR-42.1, TIA Engineering Committee TR-42, and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). ANSI/TIA reviews standards every 5 years. At that time, standards are reaffirmed,

、withdrawn, or revised according to the submitted updates. Updates to be included in the next revision should be sent to the committee chair or to ANSI/TIA. Annexes There are no annexes to this Addendum. Introduction Since the time of publication of ANSI/TIA-4966 three documents have been published b

、y TIA TR-42 subcommittees which affect its content. In response, this Addendum revises references and accommodates new media types. Specifically: ANSI/TIA-568-C.2-1 specified a new balanced twisted-pair media type, category 8, specified to 2 GHz. Category 8 cabling supports 30-meter, 2 connection ch

、annels. ANSI/TIA-568.3-D is published. Cabling transmission performance and test requirements for optical fiber cabling, guidelines for maintaining optical fiber polarity, and guidelines for field testing of optical fiber cabling are now contained in this revision, eliminating the need to reference

、ANSI/TIA-568-C.0 for this information. In addition, a new media type, OM5 wideband laser-optimized multimode optical fiber cabling, is specified. OM1, OM2 and OS1 cabling is no longer supported. ANSI/TIA-4966-1 1 1 SCOPE This Addendum updates references and accommodates new media types introduced by

The recognized media are: a) balanced twisted-pair cabling compliant with

、 ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 NOTES: 1 Category 6A is recommended for new installations. 2 Category 3 should be limited to analog voice applications. 3 Category 8 performance can be achieved by channels with a maximum of 2 connections to a maximum length of 30 m (98 ft). 4 Category 8 components can be used to c

、onstruct a category 6A 100 m (328 ft) channel for transmission and power delivery. b) multimode optical fiber cabling compliant with ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D, 2-fiber (or higher) fiber count NOTE OM4 or OM5 is recommended for new installations. c) single-mode optical fiber cabling compliant

、with ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D, 2-fiber (or higher) fiber count d) broadband coaxial cabling compliant with ANSI/TIA-568-C.4 ANSI/TIA-4966-1 2 2.4 Horizontal cabling, general (subclause 6.1) The text of the fourth paragraph of 6.1, “General,” shall be modified as follows: Optical fibers at th

、e equipment outlet shall be terminated to an optical fiber outlet/connector meeting the requirements of ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D. In new installations, where one or two fibers are used to make a connection at the equipment outlet, the LC connector (ANSI/TIA-604-10-B) should be used. Where mo

、re than two fibers are used to make a single connection at the equipment outlet, the MPO connector (ANSI/TIA-604-5-D) should be used. 2.5 Recognized media for horizontal cabling (subclause 6.3) The text of 6.3, “Recognized media,” shall be modified as follows: Four types of media are recognized and

、recommended for use in the horizontal cabling system. These media are: a) balanced twisted-pair cabling compliant with ANSI/TIA-568-C.2, category 5e, 6, 6A or 8 or higher NOTE Category 6A is recommended for new installations. NOTES: 1 Category 6A is recommended for new installations 2 Category 8 per

、TIA-568.3-D, 2-fiber (or higher) fiber count NOTE OM3 or OM4 is recommended for new installations c) single-mode optical fiber cabling compliant with ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D, 2-fiber (or higher) fiber count d) broadband coaxial cabling compliant with ANSI/TIA-568-C.4, series 6 or series 11

、2.6 Work area, general (subclause 7.1) The text of the first paragraph of 7.2, “General,” shall be modified as follows: The work area (WA) components extend from the outlet/connector end of the horizontal cabling system to the WA equipment. The telecommunications outlet/connector shall meet the requ

、irements of ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 for balanced twisted-pair cabling, ANSI/TIA-568-C.3 ANSI/TIA-568.3-D for optical fiber cabling, or ANSI/TIA-568-C.4 for broadband coaxial cabling. To simplify relocations, consider a single type and configuration of outlet/connector for all work area outlets of the same

、media type. 2.7 Work area cords (subclause 7.2) The text of the first paragraph of 7.2, “Work area cords,” shall be modified as follows: The maximum horizontal cable length is specified in clause 6.2 and is based on a maximum length of 5 m (16 ft) of WA cord. WA cords used in the WA shall meet or ex

、ceed the performance requirements in ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 or ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D. ANSI/TIA-4966-1 3 2.8 Optical fiber cabling for MUTOAs (subclause 7.3.4.2) The text of 7.3.4.2, “Optical fiber cabling,” shall be modified as follows: Optical fiber work area cords used with MUTOAs shall meet

、the requirements of ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D. The maximum horizontal cabling length is not affected by the deployment of a MUTOA. 2.9 Consolidation point, general (subclause 7.4.1) The text of the first paragraph of 7.4.1, “General,” shall be modified as follows: The consolidation point (CP)

、 is an interconnection point within the horizontal cabling using ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 or ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D compliant connecting hardware installed in accordance with the requirements of clause 13. It differs from the MUTOA in that a CP requires an additional connection for each horizontal

、 cable run. Cross-connections shall not be used at a CP. No more than one CP shall be used within the same horizontal cable run. Each horizontal cable extend-ing to the WA outlet from the CP shall be terminated to a telecommunications outlet/connector or MUTOA, provided the requirements of 7.3.4 and

、 the requirements of clause 16 are met. The cables and connections used at a CP shall meet the requirements of ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 or ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D and be installed in accordance with the requirements of clause 13 (see figure 8). 2.10 Cabling requirements (clause 16) The text of clause 16, “Cabling requirements,” shall be modified as follows: The cabling shall comply with the requirements in ANSI/TIA-568-C.0, ANSI/TIA-568-C.2, ANSI/TIA-568-C.3ANSI/TIA-568.3-D and ANSI/TIA-568-C.4.
