9、 70, as follows: Class I, Division 2; Class I, Zone 2; Class II, Division 2; Class III, Division 1 and 2; and Zone 22.1.2 These requirements cover both horizontal and vertical machines that have fractional and integralhorsepower ratings.1.3 These requirements do not cover intrinsically safe motors.2

10、 General2.1.1 When the term motor is employed in the following text, it is understood that the requirement alsoapplies to a generator.3 Components3.1 Except as indicated in 3.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shallcomply with the requirements for that component.3.2

11、 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline of Investigation; orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline of Investigation.3.3 A componen

12、t shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.3.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities.Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures notex

15、.1.1 This Outline supplements and modifies the requirements of the Standard for Rotating ElectricMachines - General Requirements, UL 1004-1. Motors and Generators shall comply with the constructionrequirements of this standard. If a requirement of this Outline of Investigation conflicts with a requi

16、rementof UL 1004-1, the requirement of this Outline of Investigation takes precedence.6.2 Class I6.2.1 A motor for use in Class I, Division 2 or Class 1, Zone 2 locations shall be of the open or totallyenclosed type.6.2.2 A motor for use in Class I, Division 2 or Class I, Zone 2 locations shall be f

17、or use with alternatingcurrent (ac) only.Exception: A motor is also able to be used with direct current (dc) when it is:a) Brushless;b) Purged and pressurized in accordance with the Standard for Purged and PressurizedEnclosures for Electrical Equipment (National Fire Codes, vol. 7), NFPA/ANSI 496, ;

25、 rigid metal conduit or other wiring methodsin accordance with Article 501, 502, 503, 505, or 506 in the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 as isappropriate for the intended use.8 External Fans and Fan Guards8.1 The external fan on a fan-cooled motor shall be mounted with clearances that reduce the r

26、isk ofcontact between revolving and stationary parts.8.2 An external metallic fan shall be constructed of brass or aluminum, with a hardness not exceedingRockwell B66.8.3 An external nonmetallic fan or guard shall comply with the requirements in Tests on Nonmetallic Fansand Fan Guards, Section 12.8.

27、4 Unless the fan of a fan-cooled motor is provided with a guard, as specified in 8.5 and 8.6, thatprotects against unintentional contact with blades, spokes, or other irregular surfaces of the fan or shaft,it shall be marked as specified in 13.3.8.5 For the purpose of these requirements, a guarded,

Motors and Generators shall comply with the testrequirements of UL 1004-1.

33、UT PERMISSION FROM UL9.2 All motors9.2.1 Representative samples shall comply with the applicable tests described in the Standard forRotating Electric Machines - General Requirements, UL 1004-1.9.3 Variable-frequency inverter-drive motors9.3.1 A motor intended for use with variable-frequency inverter

34、 drives shall comply with the requirementsin the Standard for Rotating Electric Machines - General Requirements, UL 1004-1:a) Throughout the marked frequency range; andb) When tested with each type of inverter with which the manufacturer specifies that the motoris to be used; for example, voltage-so

35、urce inverter (VSI), current source inverter (CSI), andpulse width modulated inverter (PWM).Exception: Testing with each type of inverter is not required when it is determined that testing with onetype of inverter is also representative of operation with another type or types of inverter.9.4 Ambient

36、 temperatures9.4.1 Except as noted in 9.4.2 and 9.4.3, the tests are able to be conducted at any ambient temperaturein the range of 10 40C (50 104F). Maximum temperatures measured in a test conducted in anambient less than 40C are to be increased by the amount of the difference between the test ambi

37、ent and40C.9.4.2 A motor that is rated for an ambient higher than 40C (104F) is able to be tested at an ambientbetween 10C (50F) and rated ambient with the measured temperature increased by the amount of thedifference between the test ambient and rated ambient.9.4.3 A motor provided with a temperatu

38、re indicating and regulating device shall be tested at 40 5C(104 9F), or, when rated for an ambient higher than 40C, at rated ambient 5 degrees. The measuredtemperature is to be adjusted to rated ambient.9.5 Temperature measurements9.5.1 Temperatures are to be measured by thermocouples, the resistan

39、ce method, or another methoddetermined to comply with the requirement. The temperature recording system shall have an accuracy of3C or less.9.5.2 Thermocouples, when used, are to consist of wires not larger than 24 AWG (0.21 mm2) and notsmaller than 30 AWG (0.05 mm2). When thermocouples are used in

40、determining temperatures in electricalequipment, it is common practice to employ thermocouples consisting of 30 AWG iron and constantanwire and a potentiometer-type instrument. Such equipment is to be used whenever referee temperaturemeasurements by thermocouples are required.SEPTEMBER 3, 2014UL 183

42、Temperature Test10.1 A motor shall be operated as described in 10.2. The maximum temperature attained shall be usedfor the basis of the marked operating temperature or temperature class number.10.2 A continuous-duty motor is to be connected to a generator, dynamometer, or other loadingequipment. The

43、 motor is to be operated at the test potential specified in Table 10.1 and at full-rated loador service-factor load, when so marked, until thermal equilibrium occurs. For an intermittent-duty motor,the motor is to be operated at the test potential specified in Table 10.1 at full-rated load or servic

44、e-factorload, when so marked, and at the rated duty cycle until the maximum temperatures are attained. Ashort-time duty motor is to be operated at full-rated load or service-factor load, when so marked, for therated-duty time. A torque motor is to be operated under locked-rotor conditions.10.3 With

45、regard to the requirements in 10.2, full-rated or service-factor load is determined to exist whenthe motor is loaded to at least:a) For a motor other than service-factor duty motor:1) Rated horsepower; and2) Rated full-load amperes;b) For a service-factor duty motor:1) Rated horsepower times service

46、 factor; and2) Rated full-load amperes times service-factor;c) For a line of motors, as specified in (a) or (b), as applicable, or higher when required toattain rated temperature rise on the windings.10.4 Immediately following operation of the motor as specified in 10.2, an internal space heater, wh

47、enprovided, is to be operated at the test potential specified in Table 10.1 until thermal equilibrium occurs.
