11、 without electrical contacts. Theyare intended for factory assembly to contacts (pins) by the end use manufacturer and are evaluated usingthe material construction requirements of the end use product.1.2 This outline supplements the following:a) Connector housings for assembly onto flexible cord or
12、cable that are covered by theStandard for Cord Sets and Power-Supply Cords, UL 817;b) Connector housings for use with attachment plugs, cord connectors, receptacles, inlets, andoutlets, that are covered by the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498;c) Connector housings for use with w
13、ire connectors and soldering lugs that are covered by theStandards for Wire Connectors For Use With Copper Conductors, UL 486A; Splicing WireConnectors, UL 486C; or Equipment Wiring Terminals, UL 486E;d) Connector housings for use with quick-connect terminals that are covered by the Standardfor Quic

16、ponents3.1 Except as indicated in 3.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shallcomply with the requirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards coveringcomponents used in the products covered by this Outline of Investigation.3.2 A component is no
17、t required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline of Investigation, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline of Investigation.3.3 A component shall be used in
18、 accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.3.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities.Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures notexceeding specified
19、limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.4 Units of Measurement4.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.5 References5.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of
20、 this Outline ofInvestigation shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Connector housings shall comply with the material requirements for one or more of the specified endproduct categories where the acceptability of the combination is
21、to be determined.6.2 The acceptability of a connector housing in any particular application depends on its ability to be usedunder the conditions that prevail in actual service. For a particular application, a connector housing maybe affected by the requirements for the equipment in which it is used
22、, and it may be necessary toadditionally evaluate features or performance characteristics that are not specified in this Outline ofInvestigation.6.3 The flame class rating, if specified, of the material shall be judged at the minimum thicknessemployed at the walls and barriers in the connector housi
23、ng which are critical to the functioning of theinsulation.OCTOBER 3, 2003SUBJECT 24416PERFORMANCE7 General7.1 The performance of assembled devices, connector housing and contacts, shall be investigated bysubjecting representative devices in commercial form to the applicable tests specified in the en
24、d productcategories.MARKING8 General8.1 A device shall be legibly marked, where visible before installation, with the manufacturers tradename, trademark, or other descriptive marking by which the organization responsible for the product maybe identified.8.2 The following shall be marked on the devic
25、e or on the smallest unit container or carton or on a stuffersheet in the smallest unit container or carton:a) The catalog number or an equivalent designation; andb) Flammability class, if specified.8.3 If the same device is produced or assembled at more than one factory, each finished device shallh
26、ave a distinctive marking, which may be in code, to identify the factory of origin.Exception: If the product is of a size such that legibility of the factory code designation would be difficultto attain, or if the construction or manufacturing process does not permit a legible factory code designati
