CLASSIFICATION 1.1 Classification. This commercial item description covers non
2、absorbent, unbleached cotton batting of one type in the following grades (see 5.2): Grade A - 50-percent, 314-inch fibers Grade B - 50-percent, 1/2-inch fibers 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 General. The batting shall be made from unbleached, nonabsorbent cotton, The natural color, which is cleaned
3、and garnetted to produce continuous unbroken sheets of uniform thickness in the weights and dimensions specified in 2.3. Grade A batting shall have a minimum of 50 percent new cotton fibers having a 3/4 inch minimum staple length. percent new or reworked cotton having a 1/2 inch minimum staple lengt
4、h. The Grade B batting shall have a minimum of 50 2.2 Physical requirements. 2.2.1 Ash. The cotton ash residue shall not exceed two percent when tested - in accordance with Fed. The cotton shall be nonabsorbent such that the cotton batting will not submerge in water within 15 minutes when tested as specified in 3.2. 2.3 Put-

QUALITY ASSU
7、RANCE 3.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of.the description and conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices, and is the same as the product offered for sale in the commercial
8、 marketplace. When specific quality assurance provisions are specified for any commercial characteristic, the contractar shall furnish data resulting from inspection conducted in accordance with the specific quality assurance provisions. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such con
9、formance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 3.2 Method for testing absorbency. The test specimen shall be 10 grams of cotton batting folded into a 4 inch square. The specimen shall be held parallel and close to the surface of
10、 distilled water at 77O + 4OF, dropped lightly upon the water, and the time required for the specimen to completely submerge shall be recorded to the whole second. Five determinations shall be made and the results averaged. 4. PACKAGING 4.1 Packaging. Batting, put-up as specified in 2.3, shall be wr
11、apped in minimum 30 pound basis weight kraft paper. 4.2 Packing. Twelve rolls, packaged as specified in 4.1, shall be compressed into a bale, strapped and placed in a snug-fitting plastic bag conforming to A- A-1668. The plastic bag shall have a nominal thickness of 0.005 inches. 2 Provided by IHSNo

When specified (see 5.21, batting, packed as specified in 4.2, shall be palletized in accordance with load type II of MIL-STD-147. Pallet type shall. be type I (4-way entry), type IV
13、 or type V in accordance with MIL- SD-147. Pallets shal1,be fabricated from wood groups I, IZ, III or IV of MIL- STD-731. Each prepared load shall be bonded with primary and secondary straps in accordance with bonding means K and L or filmbonding means O or P. Pallet pattern shall be number 89 for s
14、ize 1 and 83 for size 2, in accordance with the appendix of MIL-STD-147. 4.4 Marking. In addition to any marking required by the contract or purchase order, unit packs, bales and palletized unit loads shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129. 5. NOTES 5.1 Intended use. The nonabsorbent, cotton
