2、f the Army, and is available for use by all Departments aiid Agencies of the Department-of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers two types of heat-fusing material for edgesealing fibrous components of protective equipment. 1.2 Classification. Edgeseal material shall be one nf the fo

3、llowing types as specified (see 6.2). Type I - For filter element sets in M17, M17A1 and M17A2 chmical- Type II - For filter panels in M2 infant protector. biological masks. 2. Type I edgeseal material shall be “Wooster A-466-2 or Provideiice 11-3557 Low Migration Plastisol” (see 6.5). sist of polyvinyl chloride (

The material shall be packaged in containers whose normal capacity is not greater than 5 gallons (U.S.). Any change in ingredients or in quantities beyond the tolerable range o

14、f variation (see (b) below) shall constitute cause for submission of a new preproduction sample (see 3.8). The contractor shall submit the following information,which he may designate as “company confidential“, in which case it will be so treated by the Government: (a) Chemical and trade names of al

15、l ingredients in the edgeseal material. If the chemical name can not be obtained, the trade name shall be sufficient . 17、 of 88 percent of the approved PVC base resin and maximum of 12 percent of a substitute of PCV resin. (b) Providence D-3558 low migration plastisol (see 6.5) consisting of D-3557 with a minimum of 88 percent of the approved PVC base resin and a maxi- mum of 12 percent of a substitute of PVC resin. 3

18、.2 Compatibility (type I only). Filter elements molded with type I edge- seal material shall meet the requirements of MIL-F-51425 when inspected as specified in 4.3.2.2. 3.3 Physical properties. Standard specimens fabricated from the edgeseal material shall conform to the requirements of table I bef

Specimens fabricated from the edgeseal material shall show no cracks, fissures, crazing, or ruptures when tested as specified i

22、n 4.4.4.6 at a temperature of -10 - 4- 2F. 3.5 Volatile loss. The edgeseal material shall not show a loss in weight grciiterTmcent when tested as specified in 4.4.4.7. 3.6 Viscosity. The viscosity of the edgeseal material shall be 4000 I 3. 1000 centipoisec when tested as specified in 4.4.4.8. 3.7 I

25、r testing in accordance with 4.3. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. 4.1.1 Contractors responsibility. Unless otherwise specified in the con- tract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of al1 inspection requirements as specified herein.

A preproduction sample of 55 gallons of edgese

30、al material shall be produced using the same methods, materials, and equipment as will be used in regular production. 4.3.1.2 ments shall be produced in accordance with the preproduction provisions of MIL-F-51425. Filter elements (type I only). A preproduction lot of filter ele- 4.3.2 Inspection pro

A 1-quart specimen shall be taken from the pre- production sample and test slabs shall be prepared as specified in 4.4.4.1 for testing in accordance with 4.4.4.2 through 4.4.4.7. In addition, a portion of the 1-quart specimen shall be tested for viscosity in accord

32、ance with 4.4.4.8. 4.3.2.2 Filter elements (type I only). The preproduction lot shall be examined and tested in accordance with the preproduction provisiops of l4T.L-11-51425 to determine compliance with the compatibility requirement speci- fied in 3.2 (see 6.6). 4.3.3 Acceptance/rejection criteria.

33、 If the edgeseal material fails any of the tests specified in 4.3.2 it shall be rejected. 4.4 Quality conformance inspection. 4.4.1 Lotting. A lot shall consist: of the edgeseal material of one type produced by one manufacturer in no more than 24 consecutive hours under essen- tially the same manufa

34、cturing conditions and with no change in materials, pro- vided the operation is continuous. In the event that the process is a batch operation, each batch shall constitute a lot (see 6.3). 4.4.2 Sampling. In the case of a continuous process, the unit of product shall be 5 gallons. from each lot. Fro

35、m each container in the sample, a 1-quart specimen shall be removed and placed in a clean, dry container labeled to identify the specimen with lot and sample container represented. In the case of batch processing, a 5-gallon sample shall be taken from each batch while the material is stored iri the

40、umber 4 spindle at 30 revolutions per mhute in accordance with the directions supplied by the manufacturer of I 4.4.4.1 Preparation of test specimens. Specimens for testing the fused edge- seal niaterial shall be made in open aluminum molds 6-1/2 inches by 6-1/2 inches by no rimre than 1/2 inch thic

41、k, with a cavity size 6 inches by 6 inches and of suficiblt: depth to produce a sheet 0.075 i- 0.005 inch in thickness.
