Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 lot, nall material produced from the same ingot or asingle powder blend at one time, with the same cross sectionand with the same nominal metallurgical parameters.3.1.2 rod, nmaterial 0.125 to 2.5 in. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Material covered by this specification shall be madefrom vacuum-arc melted or electron-beam melted ingots orpowder-metallurgy consolidated unalloyed tantalum.5.2 The
11、 various tantalum mill products covered by thisspecification are formed with the conventional extrusion,forming, swaging, rolling, and drawing equipment normallyavailable in metal working plants.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The tantalum and tantalum alloy ingots and the tantalumpowder-metallurgy conso
12、lidated ingots for conversion to fin-ished products covered by this specification shall conform tothe requirements for chemical composition as prescribed inTable 1.6.1.1 Analysis for elements not listed in Table 1 and notnormally expected in tantalum shall not be required unlessspecified at time of
13、purchase.6.2 The manufacturers ingot analysis shall be consideredthe chemical analysis for products supplied under this specifi-cation.6.3 When requested by the purchaser at the time of pur-chase, the seller shall furnish a report certifying the values ofcarbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen as spe

Mechanical Properties7.1 Materials supplied under this specification shall con-form to the requirements
17、 for mechanical properties as specifiedin Table 3.7.2 The performance of mechanical tests to this requirementwill be negotiated at time of purchase.8. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations8.1 Tolerances on RoundsTolerances on tantalum andtantalum alloy round products covered by this specifica
18、tionshall be as specified in Table 4.8.2 Tolerances for Square, Rectangular, or Other ShapesTolerances for forged or rolled square, rectangular, or othershapes shall be as agreed upon between purchaser and seller atthe time of purchase.8.3 Other Tolerances and Limitations:8.3.1 The permissible varia
19、tion in cut lengths shall notexceed a total of 0.25 in. (6.35 mm).8.3.2 The permissible variation in straightness of roundsshall not exceed 0.050 in. (1.27 mm)/ft (304.8 mm) in anylength.8.4 Quantity or WeightFor orders requiring up to 100 lb(45.4 kg), the manufacturer may overship by 10 %. When the
20、order is for quantities up to 500 lb (226.8 kg), the manufacturermay overship by 5 %. The permissible overship for quantitieslarger than this shall be negotiated between the purchaser andthe manufacturer.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The finished rod and wire shall be free of injuriousex
21、ternal and internal imperfections of a nature that willinterfere with the purpose for which it is intended in accor-dance with standards of acceptability agreed upon between themanufacturer and the purchaser.9.2 Material may be finished as forged, rolled, swaged,drawn in the as-cleaned, as-machined,
22、 or as-ground conditions.The manufacturer shall be permitted to remove minor surfaceimperfections provided such removal does not reduce thedimensions below the minimum permitted by the tolerancesestablished in Section 8 of this specification.9.3 Methods of testing for defects and standards of accept
23、-ability shall be as agreed upon between the manufacturer andthe purchaser at time of purchase.10. Sampling10.1 Samples shall be taken from the material to determineconformity to this specification. 30、s required (7.2), perform alongitudinal or transverse tension test on each lot of rod and alongitudinal tension test on each lot of wire.11.2 If end-product chemical tests are required (6.3), makeone chemical test from each lot of finished product.12. Significance of Numerical Limits12.1 For the pur
31、pose of determining compliance with thespecified limits for requirements on the properties listed in thisspecification, observed and calculated values shall be roundedas indicated by the rounding method of Practice E 29.13. Test Methods13.1 Tension TestsPrepare and test test specimens inaccordance w
32、ith Test Methods E 8. Determine tensile proper-ties using a strain rate of 0.003 to 0.007 in./(in.min) to theyield point and 0.02 to 0.05 in./(in.min) to failure.13.2 Chemical TestsConduct the chemical analysis inaccordance with established methods.13.3 RetestsIf any sample or specimen exhibits obvi
33、oussurface contamination or improper preparation disqualifying itas a truly representative sample, discard it and substitute a newsample or specimen.13.3.1 In case of a failure, retest two additional specimens.If both retest specimens conform to this specification, discardthe original values and con
34、sider the material acceptable.13.3.2 If the results of the tests are not in conformance withthe requirements of this specification, a lot may be reworked atthe option of the manufacturer. The lot shall be acceptable ifresults of all tests, after reworking, conform to this specifica-tion.14. Reports1
35、4.1 If requested, the manufacturer shall supply at leastthree copies of a report of the chemical analysis and reports ofthe results of tests of representative finished product todetermine properties required in Section 13. The reports shouldinclude the purchase order number, this specification numbe

Inspection15.1 The manufacturer shall inspect the material covered bythis specification prior to the shipment.15.2 If so specified on the purchase order, the purchaser orhis representative may witness the testing and inspect
45、ion of thematerial at the place of manufacture. In such cases, thepurchase order shall indicate which test or tests to be witnessedand the manufacturer shall give ample notice to the purchaseras to the time and place of the designated test. If thepurchasers representative does not present himself at
46、 theagreed-upon time for the testing, and if no new date is agreedupon, the manufacturer shall consider the requirement forpurchasers inspection at place of manufacture to be waived.When the inspector representing the purchaser does appear atthe appointed place and time, the manufacturer shall affor
47、dhim, without charge, all reasonable facilities to see that thematerial is being furnished in accordance with this specifica-tion. This inspection shall be conducted so as not to interfereunnecessarily with production operations.16. Rejection and Rehearing16.1 Material that fails to conform to the r
48、equirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.17. Referee17.1 In the event of disagreement between the m
49、anufacturerand the purchaser of the conformance of the material to therequirements of this specification or any special test specifiedby the purchaser, a mutually accepted referee shall perform thetests in question. The results of the referees testing shall beused in determining conformance of the material to thisspecification.18. Packaging and Package Marking18.1 Each rod, bundle, box, coil, or spool shall be legiblyand conspicuously marked or tagged with the number of thisspecification, type, temper, lot number, manufacturers identi-fication, nominal size, gros
