Materials and Manufacture6.1 Material covered by this specification shall be madefrom vacuum-arc melted or electron-beam melted ingots orpowder metallurgy consolidated unalloyed tantalum.6.2 The various
16、tantalum mill products covered by thisspecification are formed with the conventional extrusion,forging, and rolling equipment normally available in metalworking plants.6.3 All material shall be supplied in the annealed conditionunless otherwise specified by the purchaser.6.3.1 If specified on the pu
17、rchase order, the material can besupplied in the “fully recrystallized” condition. In this case theplate, sheet, strip, or foil shall be 90 % minimum recrystallizedas measured in accordance with 16.3. The terms “fully an-nealed,” “completely,” and other similar terms shall be consid-ered the same as
18、 “fully recrystallized.”7. Chemical Composition7.1 The tantalum and tantalum alloy ingots and the tantalumpowder metallurgy consolidated ingots for conversion to fin-ished products covered by this specification shall conform tothe requirements for chemical composition as prescribed inTable 1.7.1.1 A
19、nalysis for elements not listed in Table 1 and notnormally expected in tantalum shall not be required unlessspecified at time of purchase.7.2 The manufacturers ingot (or powder metallurgy con-solidated bar) analysis may be considered the chemical analy-sis for products supplied under this specificat
20、ion. Alternately,an analysis of a representative sample of in-process material(or the final product) from the same ingot may be substituted.7.3 When requested by the purchaser at the time of pur-chase, the seller shall furnish a report certifying the values ofcarbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen o
21、f the finished productas specified in Table 2 for each lot of material supplied. Theperformance of this special provision shall be negotiated.8. Mechanical Properties8.1 Annealed materials supplied under this specificationshall conform to the requirements for mechanical properties asspecified in Tab
22、le 3. No mechanical property requirements forunannealed (not heat treated) plate, sheet, or strip have beenestablished by this specification. Unless otherwise specified,material supplied under this specification will be supplied inthe annealed condition.9. Metallurgical Properties9.1 Unless otherwis

Workmanship and Appearance14.1 Crac
41、ks, seams, slivers, blisters, burrs, and other inju-rious imperfections shall not exceed standards of acceptabilityagreed upon by the manufacturer and the purchaser.14.2 Finished strip, sheet, and plate shall be free of injuriousinternal and external imperfections of a nature that willinterfere with
42、 the purpose for which it was intended.14.3 The finished strip, sheet, or plate shall be visibly free ofoxide, grease, oil, residual lubricants, and other extraneousmaterials.14.4 Methods of testing for these defects and standards ofacceptability shall be as agreed upon between the manufacturerand t
43、he purchaser.14.5 The manufacturer shall be permitted to remove surfaceimperfections provided such removal does not reduce anydimension below the minimum permitted by the tolerances forthat dimension.15. Number of Tests and Results15.1 Unless otherwise specified one sample per lot shall besufficient
44、 for conformance to this specification.15.2 If mechanical testing is required (see 8.1), perform alongitudinal or transverse tension test on each lot of material.15.3 If end-product chemical tests are required (see 7.3),one chemical test from each lot of finished product shall beperformed.15.4 If an
45、y sample or specimen exhibits obvious surfacecontamination or improper preparation, disqualifying it as atruly representative sample, it shall be discarded and a newsample or specimen substituted.15.5 If the results of any chemical or mechanical propertytest lot are not in conformance with the requi
46、rements of thisspecification, the lot may be retested at the option of themanufacturer. Retests shall be made on double the originalnumber of samples from the same lot. Both retest values shallconform to the requirements specified. These acceptable retestvalues will become the test values for certif
47、ication.15.6 If the results for the retest fail to conform to thespecification, the material will be rejected.15.7 ReworkIf the results of the final sheet, strip, or plateinspections are not in conformance with the requirements ofthis specification, the lot may be reworked at the option of themanufa
48、cturer. The lot shall be acceptable if the results of alltests, after reworking, conform to this specification.16. Sampling and Test Methods16.1 Sampling:16.1.1 Samples for chemical test shall be taken from theingot or powder metallurgy bar. Care shall be taken to removeany surface contamination.16.
49、1.2 Samples for mechanical testing shall be taken fromthe finished material after all metallurgical processing.
