、Designation: C 514 04Standard Specification forNails for the Application of Gypsum Board1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 514; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number
、 in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers requirements for steel wirenails
、 suitable for use in the application of gypsum board.1.2 Details of construction for a specific assembly toachieve the required fire resistance shall be obtained fromreports of fire-resistance tests, engineering evaluations, orlistings from recognized fire testing laboratories.1.3 The values stated
、in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard.1.4 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest method portion, Sections 7 and 8, of this specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility
、 of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicability of regulatory limita-tions prior to use.2. Before fabrication it shall be suffi-ciently ductile to withstand cold-bending, without fracture, through 180 over a radius not greater than the diameter of thewire (see Section 8).4. Physica
、l Properties4.1 DuctilityThe nail shall be sufficiently ductile to with-stand cold bending without fracture when tested according toSection 8.4.2 Withdrawal ResistanceThe average withdrawal resis-tance, both immediate and delayed, shall be at least equal tothat provided by 12.5 gage (0.099 6 0.003 i

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 The nails shall be bright, or chemically treated, orcoated with rust inhibiting material provided that such chemi-cal treatment or rust inhibitor does not adversely affect theperformance of the nail as specified in Section 4.
、 The nailsshall also be compatible with the joint compound and decora-tion. Nails shall be neatly formed and free from injuriousdefects or deformations.7. Number of Tests7.1 At least five nails from each lot of 100 individualcontainers shall be examined to determine conformance to therequirements of
