Let me say that it is not really a lecture but an informal discussion of my insights into the qualities of leadership. Although a goo

19、d leader needs to have many qualities, in my opinion there are 10 qualities, which are the most important. The most important quality of a leader is to lead. This may sound simple but in reality many people in leadership positions fail to lead. The world is constantly changing and any business needs

20、 to move with the times or risk losing ground. To lead means to make difficult decisions. These decisions include setting your own agenda for the organisation such as determining its core values and setting its strategic direction. Other decisions also include making tough decisions on professional,

21、 business and personnel matters. No leader makes the right decision every time but a good leader is not afraid to make decisions because he is not afraid to reverse his decision and take remedial action where necessary. A bad leader is one who shies away from making decisions and simply wait for thi

22、ngs to happen. Secondly, a leader is expected to set the strategy for the organisation. How does a good leader choose the right strategy for his organisation? A good leader must develop a thorough analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the organisation. He must evaluate

23、carefully the pros and cons of each alternative strategy. He should also consider the short-term as well as the long-term impact of each option. What I cannot over-emphasise is that a leader must adopt a strategy for his organisation. He cannot simply copy others. Thirdly, a key attribute of a good

24、leader is to be able to communicate internally and externally. He must maintain a high level of visibility. Internally, the leader must communicate his strategy and vision to every member of the firm. Externally, the leader is the face of the organisation and must project a positive image for the or

32、grees or experience you dont. Remember that many organisations check references. Any inconsistencies could lead to an employer rescinding a Job offer. 33、 Are you an idea person? Do you have the gift of the gab? Are you good at explaining things to others? Most of us dont think of ourselves astalented but look closer, and youll find something to guide you towards the sort of jobs youll most enjoy. Follow up an interview with a brief courtesy message(

34、an email will do)a few days later. Not many applicants bother with this, and it will keep you at the front of an interviewers mind. It doesnt take more than 15 minutes to knock out a well-crafted thank-you letter. Man: Is there crossover between the two fields? If so, use these lists to help identif

35、y the types of jobs and industries you are most suited for. Get to know yourself and focus on your strengths. What makes you come alive? Ask yourself what really motivates you? Understand your unique skills, abilities and interests. Dress appropriately for the job you want. Presentation can make the

36、 difference in whether or not you are hired or even the salary you are offered. Dress at least as well as you would when actually turning up to do the job preferably better. If you feel you look good, you will come across as confident and relaxed. Woman: Well, those suggestions are very worthy. Anyw

37、ay, talking to recruiters in your sector is to establish what they consider to be an above-average CV. If you can afford it, consider asking a CV-writing agency to help you, but only one that comes recommended by someone in your network. As always, theres a bell curve of skill and you can spend a lo

38、t of money to very little effect if you hire the wrong wordsmith, especially when you arent 100% certain who they are. The speaker says that he once assumed the girl who greeted him and asked if he wanted a coffee was a secretary but when she sat down and started the interview he realised she was th

39、e boss. It taught me a lot. Man: Put yourself in the shoes of each recruiter and make sure youve emphasised the bits theyll be most interested in. Dont use jargon they wont understand and if your former employers arent well-known, explain briefly the nature of each, before detailing what you did the

40、re. Consider a video CV if you are in a technical field, but be careful, its easy to do this very badly. Produce a 30-second, a 90-second and a five-minute piece for your channel. Make sure that channel on YouTube or Vimeo reflects the professional image you are seeking to cast and track viewing sta

41、tes very closely to assess if your approach is working. Take a phone in advance to confirm time, place and directions if needed. Its also worth scouting out the location in advance to check parking, public transport, cafes where you can loiter and so on. If an act of God makes you late, phone and of
