、Designation: C 821 09Standard Specification forLime for Use with Pozzolans1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 821; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parenthese

、s indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers all types of commercial hy-drated lime such as: high-calcium, magnesium, or dolomitic-hydrated lime. By-product limes and slaked

、 quick limes in dry, wet, or slurried form are also included.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does no

、t purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Performance Requirements5.1 If the chemical factor, Blaine fineness, or pozzolanicreceptivity index is below the limits given in Table 1, the limeshall be required to meet the applicable performance require-ments listed in Table 2. Where such lime complies with thelimits listed in Table 2,

、 it shall be considered acceptable for usewith pozzolans. However, it may be necessary to increase thelime content in the lime-pozzolan mixtures in order to meetminimum design criteria.6. Test Methods6.1 Chemical Factor:6.1.1 Determine calcium oxide (CaO), magnesium oxide(MgO), and carbon dioxide (C

、O2) contents in accordance withTest Methods C25. When the magnesium oxide content isgreater than 5 %, determine the peak height of magnesiumoxide and magnesium hydroxide using standard X-ray diffrac-tion procedures and calculate the ratio (r) of magnesium oxideto hydroxide using Eq 1. When the magne
