Scope1.1 This specification covers woven cotton fabrics saturatedwith either asphalt or coal-tar pitch intended to be used withasphalts conforming to Specifications D312/D312M or D449/D449M, coal-tar pitches conforming to Specification D450/D450M, or appropr
4、iate solvent bearing bituminous materials inthe construction of roofing and waterproofing systems.1.1.1 Asphalt-saturated cotton fabric shall be used withasphalt base plying cement; typical ones are mopping asphaltsconforming to Specifications D312/D312M or D449/D449Mor appropriate solvent bearing a

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in thisspecification, refer to Terminology D1079.4. Materials and Manu
10、facture4.1 In the process of manufacture, the dry cotton fabric shallbe thoroughly and uniformly saturated with bitumen. This shallbe accomplished by passing the fabric through the saturant orby spraying with saturant, calendering in the presence of heat,and then cooling before winding on a core.4.2
11、 If fabric with a selvage is used, the selvage shall not bemore than 16 mm 58 in. wide.4.3 The fabric shall be woven entirely from cotton fibers,but customary sizing materials not exceeding 8 % by weight ofthe moisture-free cotton shall be permitted to be used.5. Physical Properties5.1 The material
12、shall conform to the physical requirementsprescribed in Table 1 and the dimensions and masses pre-scribed in Table 2.5.2 The finished product shall not crack nor be so sticky asto cause tearing or other damage upon being unrolled attemperatures between 10 and 60C 50 and 140F.6. Workmanship, Finish,
13、and Appearance6.1 The meshes of the fabric shall not be completely closedor sealed by the process of saturation. 18、 The surface shall be uniformly smooth and free ofirregularities, folds, or knots.6.4 The finished material shall be free of visible externaldefects such as ragged or untrue edges, breaks, rents, or cracks.7. Sampling and Test Methods7.1 Sample the material and determine compliance withthese specifi
19、cations in accordance with Test Methods D146/D146M.7.2 Determine the pliability of the saturated fabric at 0C32F by bending over a 1.6-mm 116-in. diameter mandrelthrough an arc of 180 in one direction and then through 360in the opposite direction.7.3 Determine the thread count in accordance with Tes
20、tMethod D3775.8. Inspection8.1 InspectionInspection shall be in accordance with therequirements of this specification.8.2 Inspection AlternativesAlternative inspection require-ments shall be determined by and agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier.9. Rejection and Resubmittal9.1 Failure t
21、o ConformFailure to conform to any of therequirements as stated in this specification constitutes groundsfor rejection.9.2 Rejection RedressThe supplier shall have the right toinspect the rejected materials. The supplier and the purchasershall agree to the quantity of rolls deemed unacceptable. Thes
22、upplier shall then have the right to submit the same number ofnew rolls as replacement.10. Packaging and Package Marking10.1 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the supplierand purchaser, each product package shall be plainly markedwith the suppliers name, the product brand, the ASTMdesignation, an
23、d type of bitumen if not evident in the labelname of the product.10.2 The rolls shall be securely wrapped or banded in amanner that completely encircles the roll and will preventslipping or unrolling.10.3 No roll shall contain more than two pieces, and nomore than 3 % of the rolls in any lot shall c
24、ontain two pieces.If a roll contains a manufacturing splice, the splice shall beclearly marked.10.4 The rolls shall be wound on mandrels or rigid hollowfiber cylinders not less than 50 mm 2 in. in diameter,extending not more than 100 mm 4 in. beyond the end of therolls.11.
