Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers Schedule 40 PVCpipe fittings, made from four PVC plastic com
17、pounds andintended for use with Iron Pipe Size (IPS) outside-diameterplastic pipe.4.1.1 Fittings covered by this specification are normallymolded. In-line fittings, such as couplings, bushings, caps,nipples, etc., shall be molded or machined from extruded stock.4.1.2 Fittings fabricated by welding a
18、re not included in thisspecification.5. Materials5.1 This specification covers PVC pipe fittings made fromfive PVC plastics as classified in Specification D1784. Theseare PVC 12454, 12454, 13354, 11443, and 14333.5.2 CompoundThe PVC plastic compound shall meet therequirements of PVC 12454, 12454, 11
19、443, or 14333, asdescribed in Specification D1784.NOTE 3Mechanical strength, heat resistance, flammability, andchemical resistance requirements are covered in Specification D1784.5.3 Rework MaterialThe manufacturers shall use onlytheir own clean rework fitting material and the fittings pro-duced sha
20、ll meet all the requirements of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.1.1 Fitting sockets inside diameters (waterways), mini-mum wall thicknesses, and dimensions shall be as shown inTable 1, Table 2, and Table 3 when measured in accordancewith Test Method D2122.6.1.2 When
21、 multistep reducer bushings are cored out, theinner socket shall be reinforced from the outer wall by aminimum of three ribs extending from the top of the innersocket to the deepest extremity of the coring. The transitionfromDtoDJ(Table 3) shall be straight, tapered as shown, orradiused. A positive
22、taper in the same direction of the taper inthe socket on the outside diameter of the bushing is optional(See XA/XB in Table 3).Any point measured along the outsidediameter of the bushing (between points XA and XB) shall notfall below minimum pipe OD.6.1.3 The minimum wall thickness of fittings shall
23、 be 125 %of the minimum wall thickness of the corresponding size ofSchedule 40 pipe for which they are designed to be used,except that for the socket, the wall thickness shall be at leastequal to the minimum wall thickness of the corresponding sizeof Schedule 40 pipe. For any threaded fitting the mi
24、nimum wallthickness of the threaded portion shall be at least equal to thethickness of material under the thread root of threaded Sched-ule 80 pipe of the same size.6.1.4 The minimum inside diameter of the fittings shall benot less than the minimum specified inside diameter of thecorresponding size
25、of Schedule 40 pipe. Any fitting having amale thread shall have an internal diameter not larger thanSchedule 80 pipe of the same size.6.1.5 Minimum dimensions have zero negative tolerance.Tolerances on other dimensions are shown in Table 1 and Table3.6.2 ThreadsFor all fittings having taper pipe thr
26、eads,threads shall conform to Specification F1498 and be gaged inaccordance with 8.4.6.3 Burst Pressure:6.3.1 The minimum burst strength of the fittings shall be notless than that calculated for the size and wall thickness of thepipe with which it is to be used, when calculated from thefollowing equ

(or mm).Fittings tested in accordance with 8.5 shall withstand theminimum burst pressure shown in Table 4.6.3.2 Pressures show
28、n are minimum burst pressures and donot imply rated working pressures. The burst pressure shall beused only as an indication of quality.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The fittings shall be homogeneous throughout and freeof cracks, holes, foreign inclusions, or other defects. Thefittings s
29、hall be as uniform as commercially practicable incolor, opacity, density, and other physical properties.8. Test Methods8.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimens at 73 63.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity for not lessthan 40 h prior to test in accordance with Procedure A ofPractice D618,
30、 for those tests where conditioning is required.8.2 Test ConditionsConduct tests in the Standard Labora-tory Atmosphere of 73 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5%relative humidity, unless otherwise specified in the test meth-ods or in this specification.8.3 SamplingA sufficient quantity of fittings as agree
31、dupon between the seller and the purchaser shall be selected atrandom from each lot or shipment and tested to determine thatthe basic design is in conformance with this specification.NOTE 4For individual orders or specifications, only those tests andnumbers of tests specifically agreed upon between
32、the purchaser and theseller need be conducted.8.4 ThreadsAll taper pipe threads shall be gaged inaccordance with Specification F1498.8.5 Burst PressureDetermine the minimum burst pressurein accordance with Test Method D1599. The pressure shall beapplied at a uniform rate such that the minimum allowa
33、bleburst pressure is attained in 60 or 70 s.NOTE 5The time-to-failure may exceed 70 s.8.5.1 ApparatusFittings shall be tested while held in atest jig constructed in such a manner as to seal the socket bymeans of O-rings, or gaskets but not to reinforce or support thefittings, except where contact is
34、 necessary because of the shapeof the fitting to keep the fitting in the test jig. Such contact shallbe held to the minimum. The socket plug portion of the testD2466 132fixture must extend one third to two thirds of the socket depth.Failure of any part of the test apparatus does not constitutefailur
35、e of the fittings.9. Retest and Rejection9.1 If the results of any test(s) do not meet the requirementsof this specification, the tests(s) shall be conducted again onlyby agreement between the purchaser and seller. Under suchagreement, minimum requirements shall not be lowered,changed, or modified,
36、nor shall specification limits be changed.If upon retest, failure occurs, the quantity of product repre-sented by the test(s) does not meet the requirements of thisspecification.10.
