1、Designation: D 6489 99 (Reapproved 2006)Standard Test Method forDetermining the Water Absorption of Hardened ConcreteTreated With a Water Repellent Coating1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 6489; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adopt

2、ion or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This test method provides a procedure for the determi-nation of the wate

3、r absorption by a core of concrete taken froma surface treated with a water repellent.1.2 The intended use of the water repellent coating is toreduce the amount of water that absorbs into the substrate.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parenthes

4、es are for informationonly.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations p

Summary of Test Method3.1 The specimen is dried to a constant weight and theportions of the specimen not treat

7、ed with the water repellentare sealed with an impervious sealing material. The specimensare weighed and immersed in water. The specimens areremoved from the water, weighed, and a percent water absorp-tion is calculated.4. Significance and Use4.1 Researchers in the field of water repellent coatings h

8、averecognized the need for a standardized test for determining theperformance of water repellents applied to structures in thefield. Many coating manufacturers supply warranties for theirproducts based on maintaining a specific water repellency onconcrete. This test method can be used to determine t

9、heeffective water repellency of the coating by comparing itsperformance to a control uncoated specimen.5. Apparatus and Materials5.1 Balance, having a capacity of not less than 4000 g (8.81lb) and a sensitivity of 0.1 g, (0.0002 lb) as tested inaccordance with Test Method E 898.5.2 Hot Plate, capabl

Test Specimen7.1 Typical test specimens are hardened concrete cores, approximately 7.0 cm (2.75 in.) in diameter and 7.5 cm (2 to 3in.) in length. A minimum of three cores for each test shall beused. Cores should be pul
