、Designation: D 6957 03Standard Practice forMeasuring Curl in Paint Brush Filling Material1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 6957; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A numb
、er in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice describes the procedure for measuring curlin synthetic filament.1.2 This practice is applicable to filament 2 to 5 in. (50.8
、 to127 mm) in length.1.3 This practice is applicable to tapered filament or levelfilament.1.4 The values given in-pound units are to be regarded asthe standard as this is the dominant measurement system usedin the paint brush industry. The values given in parentheses arefor information only.1.5 This

、itions of Terms Specific to This Standard:2.1.1 paint brush filament, na synthetic polymer extrusionused in brushing material.2.1.2 filament curl, ndeviation from straight, along thelength of a filament.2.1.3 butt-end, nthe larger end of a tapered filament;either end of a level filament.3. Significa
、nce and Use3.1 It is important for the manufacturing and performance ofa brush to have filaments with minimal curl.4. Apparatus4.1 Filament curl deviation chart. See Fig. 1.5. Procedure5.1 For Testing Synthetic Filaments:5.1.1 Select filaments to be measured.5.1.2 Allow filaments to acclimate to roo
、m temperature 70to 75F (21 to 24C) at least two h.5.1.3 Place a filament on the filament curl deviation chartwith butt-end at the x-reference point (see Fig. 1).5.1.4 Record the degree of deviation from straight at theother end of the filament.5.1.5 If multiple filaments of the same type and length
、are tobe measured, repeat 5.1.3 and 5.1.5 for each of the remainingfilaments and average the results.6.
