1、Designation: D8195 18Standard Classification System and Basis for Specification forPolyethylene Terephthalate Film and Sheeting1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D8195; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revisi

Scope1.1 This standard provides a classification system for tabu-lating the properties for biaxially oriented p

3、olyethylene te-rephthalate film and sheeting in thicknesses from 1.5 m to 355m. For this classification system, polyethylene terephthalatefilm and sheeting shall be defined as the material derived fromterephthalic acid and ethylene glycol and shall consist of atleast 90 % polyethylene terephthalate

4、homopolymer with atypical melting temperature range of 225 C to 250 C. Thisspecification does not apply to coated, coextruded, tinted,pigmented, or metallized film or sheeting. This classification(in accordance with D8065/D8065M) is intended to eventuallyreplace Specification D5047 (ref. Note 3).NOT

5、E 1Film is defined in Terminology D883 as an optional term forsheeting having a nominal thickness no greater than 250 m.NOTE 2In order to conform to the original scope of SpecificationD5047, this classification also includes sheeting up to and includingthicknesses of 355 m.NOTE 3It is strongly recom

6、mended that this classification system beused for all new applications and specifications and that the specificationof films referencing Specification D5047 be expeditiously withdrawn orconverted to this classification system.1.2 Polyethylene terephthalate materials, beingthermoplastic, are reproces

7、sable and recyclable. This specifi-cation allows for the use of those polyethylene terephthalateplastic materials, provided that any specific requirements asgoverned by the producer and end user are met.1.3 In all cases where the provisions of this classificationsystem would conflict with a currentl

8、y referenced ASTMspecification for a particular film product, the latter shall takeprecedence (see Note 3).1.4 This classification system applies to commercial prod-ucts and, as such, there is no control over the manufacturingparameters employed in producing the film. It shall be theresponsibility o

9、f those developing the specification documentsutilizing this classification system to identify the criticalparameters and values to be used for the cell classifications andsuffix requirements.1.5 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are incl

10、uded in thisstandard.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety, health, and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory lim

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsThe defin

19、itions used in this classificationsystem are in accordance with Terminology D883.4. Significance and Use4.1 The purpose of this classification system is to provide amethod of adequately identifying polyethylene terephthlatefilms and sheeting and to provide a means for specifying thesefilms and sheet

20、ing by the use of a simple line call-outdesignation.5. Classification5.1 The classification of Polyethylene terephthlate films andsheeting shall be as follows (ref. Suffix Requirements6.1 When specific requirements are need

24、ed to supplementthe general classifications not covered in Table A (Table 2),they shall be specified through the use of suffixes. In general,the first suffix letter indicates the special requirement neededand sufficient digits are used to indicate the specific require-ments.NOTE 7When using the suff

25、ixes for specific requirements, the usermust keep in mind that not all tests are routinely conducted by thesupplier. When these requirements are necessary to identify particularcharacteristics important to specific applications they shall be specified.6.1.1 In order to avoid lengthy and cumbersome c

26、all-outs, itis recommended that the specific requirements be limited innumber to five (5) and represent only the more criticalproperties. 30、ts7.1 The composition of the specified films shall be uniformand shall conform to the requirements specified herein.8. Detail Requirements8.1 The film shall conform to the requirements prescribed inthe appropriate table (generic classification and suffix) as theyapply.8.2 For the purpose of determin

31、ing conformance with thisclassification system, all specified limits used in the specificstandards, are absolute limits as defined in Practice E29.8.3 With the absolute method, an observed value or acalculated value is not rounded, but is to be compared directlywith the specified limiting value. Con

32、formance or nonconfor-mance with the specification is based on this comparison.9. Sampling9.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of 13.4. Number of Tests10.1 The number of tests conducted shall be consistent withthe requirements of 9.1 and 13.4.11. Specimen Preparatio

34、n and Conditioning11.1 The test specimens shall be prepared and conditionedas specified in the appropriate ASTM test procedures cited.12. Test Methods12.1 Determine the properties enumerated in this classifica-tion system by means of the test procedures cited.13. Inspection and Certification13.1 Ins

35、pection and certification of the material suppliedunder this classification system shall be for conformance to therequirements specified herein.13.2 Lot-acceptance inspection shall be the basis on whichacceptance or rejection of the lot is made. The lot-acceptanceinspection shall consist of those te

36、sts which ensure processcontrol during manufacture as well as those necessary to ensurecertifiability in accordance with 13.4.13.3 Periodic check inspection shall consist of the testsspecified for all requirements of the material under thisclassification system. Inspection frequency shall be adequat

37、e toensure the material is certifiable in accordance with 13.4.13.4 Certification shall be that the material was manufac-tured by a process in statistical control, sampled, tested, andinspected in accordance with this classification system, andthat average values for the lot meet the requirements of

38、 thespecification (line call-out).13.5 A report of the test results shall be furnished whenrequested. The report shall consist of results of the lot-acceptance inspection for the shipment and the results of themost recent periodic-check inspection.14. Packaging, Packing, and Marking14.1 Provisions o
