Scope1.1 This practice covers a standard course for the training ofthe emergency medical technician (basic) which will prepare ap

3、erson to perform those skills commonly required to renderlifesaving aid at the scene of an emergency and duringtransportation to a definitive care facility.1.2 It is not the intent of this practice to require that thecurriculum be used exactly as presented, but only that theknowledge and skill objec

4、tives that are part of the curriculumbe included in any course purporting to train the emergencymedical technician (basic). Description of Term S

6、pecific to This Standard3.1 emergency medical technician (basic)as outlined inthis practice, a person who has successfully completed thecourse of training, may provide emergency medical care, andmay transport the sick and injured. Legal functioning as anEMT (basic) will be based upon licensure/certi

7、fication require-ments, as established by the authority or authorities havingjurisdiction.4. Significance and Use4.1 The purpose of this practice is to provide a standardmeans of providing Emergency Medical Technician (Basic)training. The practice should be used by all individuals andagencies that t

8、rain such persons.4.2 Successful completion of this course of training neitherconstitutes nor implies certification or licensure.4.3 This practice adopts the knowledge and skill objectivescontained in the DOT curriculum (latest version) as thestandard practice for training those persons who providee

9、mergency medical care at the basic life support level and areknown as emergency medical technicians (basic). The actuallesson plans contained in the referenced document are recom-mended for use; however, each instructor may modify the orderof presentation according to local needs.4.4 This practice o

10、utlines a comprehensive course thatcovers most common emergencies encountered by the emer-gency medical technician. EMT-basic courses that do notinclude all of the knowledge and skill objectives of thispractice may not be referred to as meeting this standard.5. Contents of Course5.1 The practice for

11、 training the emergency medical techni-cian (basic) is a course consisting of, at a minimum, theknowledge and skill objectives contained in DOT curriculum(latest version). The knowledge and skill objectives are delin-eated as Objectives and are listed at the beginning of each ofthe designated lesson

12、s contained in the document. The courseshall also include the objectives listed in the In-hospitalClinical Guidelines, Appendix C, of DOT curriculum (lastestversion).6. Course Implementation6.1 The course shall be conducted in accordance with theregulations of the governmental authority having juris

13、diction.6.2 It is highly recommended that all courses adhere to theprocedure for presentation outlined in DOT curriculum (latestversion).7.
