Scope1.1 This test method covers the motorized nozzle used withhousehold or commercial vacuum clea

3、ner systems, that is,combination cleaners.1.2 This test method provides a test for determining oper-ating motor life in hours by an accelerated laboratory proce-dure. The motors are tested while mounted and operated in themotorized nozzle.1.3 This test method covers only the motorized nozzle. Thesys

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 motor lifelimited by failure of the motor. Failur

9、be judgedas motor stoppage.4. Significance and Use4.1 The test results provide an indication of the motor life ofan electric motorized nozzle. End of motor life will be judgedin accordance with Section 3.5. Apparatus and Materials5.1 Voltage Regulator System, to control the input voltage tothe vacuu

10、m cleaner. The regulator system shall be capable ofmaintaining rated voltage 61 % and rated frequency 61Hzofthe motorized nozzle, having a wave form that is essentiallysinusoidal with 3 % maximum harmonic distortion for theduration of the test.5.2 Voltmeter, to provide measurements accurate to withi

11、n61%.5.3 Timer and Switch, having the capacity to control theoff/on duty cycle of the nozzle and air flow source during thelife test.5.4 Wattmeter, to provide measurements accurate to within1%.5.5 Sharp-Edge Orifice Plate, a114-in. (32-mm) diametershall be in accordance with the orifice plate illust

17、ng will conform to the padding described in SpecificationF655.5.13 Test Cleaner or Airflow SourceThe motorized nozzlemotor life evaluation tests shall be conducted using the airflowsource and voltage resulting from the components whichcomprise the combination system with which the motorizednozzle is

18、 to be used. If used with several systems, the one withthe maximum airflow shall be used.5.13.1 OptionA simulated airflow source and adjustedvoltage may be used if they are equal to or exceed thecombination system with which the motorized nozzle is to beused.5.14 Test FixtureA moving surface, covere

19、d by the testcarpet supported on the test pad, which moves with a horizon-tal reciprocating motion, for a stroke distance of 27 in. (686mm) in each direction at the average rate of 1.8 ft/s (0.55 mps),which results in 24 cpm (forward and back). This motion shallbe generated by rotating a 13.5-in. (3

20、43-mm) radius arm thatshall be connected to the platform with an arm at least 24 in.(610 mm) long or equivalent. This device shall provide meansto hold the motorized nozzle fixed by its handle stationary inthe operating position while it is in contact with the recipro-cating surface.5.14.1 OptionThe

21、 motorized nozzle can be movedthrough the same cycle as stated in 5.14 while the carpetedplatform is held stationary. See Fig. 1. For either option, thereciprocating motion shall follow the same duty cycle asspecified for the vacuum cleaner or airflow source and motor-ized nozzle in 7.7. For the opt

22、ional test fixture of Fig. 1, thereciprocating arm must be at either end of its horizontal motionat the start of each “on” portion of the cycle. The vacuumcleaner or airflow source shall be stationary and positioned sothat the hose will be submitted to minimum stresses.5.15 Test Dirt, Wedron sand/ta

23、lc mixture. See Annex A1.6. Sampling6.1 Test a minimum of three units (or a larger sample size ifdesired) of similar models using the same motor style andamperage. Select all samples at random in accordance withgood statistical practice. Results shall provide an 80 % confi-dence level within 610 % o

24、f the mean value. If not, testadditional samples or reduce the results by the penalty factor ascalculated in 7.12.7. Procedure7.1 Determine initial performance. The suction of thecleaner or airflow source with the motorized nozzle attached isto be determined to ensure that no leaks develop to reduce

25、 loadon the nozzle. For the test, the nozzle opening is to be sealedto theASTM plenum chamber with manometer (or equivalent)connected to the chamber, and with the sharp-edge orifice platein the holder. The motorized nozzle is to have the agitator drivebelt connected and a new filter bag in the clean

26、er or airflowsource. The agitator shall be operating freely with the handle inoperating position as shown in Fig. 1.7.1.1 With the motorized nozzle opening sealed to theplenum chamber and without an orifice plate in the holder,energize the cleaner and motorized nozzle at rated voltage 1 %and rated f

27、requency 1 Hz for 5 min to stabilize motortemperatures. See 5.13 if an optional airflow source is used.7.1.2 With the motorized nozzle operating at rated voltage61 % and rated frequency 61 Hz and the airflow source at therequired voltage, insert the sharp-edge orifice plate into theholder on the ori

28、fice box, in accordance with 5.5 and 5.6.7.1.3 Record the manometer reading of the combined powernozzle and airflow source as soon as the reading stabilizes.7.1.4 Record the wattage of the nozzle on the plenumchamber. The wattage reading is used to monitor the nozzleload.7.1.5 Repeat the test, recor

29、ding the manometer and wattagereading of the cleaner or airflow source connected only to theplenum chamber.FIG. 1 Test FixtureF922 01 (2016)27.1.6 The airflow and wattage reading shall be measuredevery 168 h to determine if some component has failed anddegraded performance, reducing the load on the

30、nozzle duringthe life test. If degradation exceeds 40 %, see 7.10.7.1.7 Monitor the suction at the motorized nozzle dailyduring the test, in addition to the weekly measurement on theplenum chamber, to maintain loading and to ensure that nomechanical problems exist.7.2 Use a new section of carpet and

31、 padding in accordancewith 5.11 and 5.12 without holes, tears, or other signs of wearwhen the test is started. Tautly secure the carpet. The lay of thecarpet pile shall be such that during the forward stroke thepowered nozzle moves in the direction of the lay of the carpetpile. See Fig. 1. Measure t

32、he carpet pile height to determinecarpet wear in accordance with 7.5.1.7.3 Install the motorized nozzle on the test fixture, as shownin Fig. 1, with the nozzle connected to the airflow source.7.4 If various settings are provided, set the motor speed,suction regulator, nozzle height, or a combination

33、 thereof, inaccordance with the manufacturers specified setting for usingthe nozzle on the level loop test carpet and pad. The settingshall be the same as that used for Test Method F608.7.5 Keep the load within limits by controlling changes in thecarpet, agitator brush, drive belt, or airflow source

34、 or replacingcomponents as determined in 7.5.1 7.5.4.7.5.1 Replace the carpet when one fourth of the pile heightis worn away, as measured in the center one third of the stroke,except at the beginning and end of the stroke path.7.5.2 During the life test, change the agitator brush every168 h of cycli

35、ng time.7.5.3 Change drive belts every 168 h of cycling time or ifthey cease to drive the agitator on the test carpet prior to 168h. Replace positive drive belts if they cease to function asintended.7.5.4 During the life test, change the disposable filter orclean the reusable primary and secondary f

36、ilter every 168 h ofcycling time or when the airflow decreases 40 % due to filterclogging.To determine if the filters must be changed or cleanedprior to the 168-h period, an initial dust clogging test shall beconducted in accordance with the procedure described inAnnex A4.7.6 Perform all tests in a

37、controlled ambient with a dry-bulbtemperature of 68 to 81F (20 to 27C) and with a relativehumidity of 30 to 50 %.7.7 Operate the vacuum cleaner or airflow source (see 5.13)at a required voltage to obtain the desired airflow through themotorized nozzle. Operate the motorized nozzle at its regulatedan

38、d applicable voltage. Operate the vacuum cleaner or airflowsource and motorized nozzle from a remote on-off switch andtime with a duty cycle of 8 min of operation followed by 2 minoff following the cycle condition set forth in 5.14.7.8 Measure the suction of the motorized nozzle with theairflow sour

39、ce initially and daily on the test fixture to providea base line for identifying if degradation has occurred. The unitcan then be removed and tested on the plenum chamber todetermine if it exceeds the degradation limitation in accordancewith 7.11.1 and 7.11.2.7.9 Spread 10 g of the standard dirt mix

40、ture (Annex A1)atthe start of the test and once every 24 h of cycling time on thetest carpet. Spread evenly over the area traversed by the nozzleopening.7.10 Test for degradation of performance every 168 h ofcycling time.7.10.1 Airflow LossIn accordance with the procedure inAnnexA2, the suction at t

41、he start of the test, 7.1.3, is to be usedas the base for determining the 40 % degradation of perfor-mance. Measure suction with and without the motorized nozzleto ensure degradation is in the motorized nozzle. If degradationis in the airflow source, replace or repair the airflow source andcontinue

42、test. If degradation is in the motorized nozzle,determine and correct the cause. Replace or repair any part,except the motor, to bring the system within performance limitsand continue the test.7.11 Judge the end of the test in conformance with Section3. Express life in terms of “on” time (hours) onl
