Scope1.1 This standard specifies the format, content, number ofcharacters and physical requirements for serial numbers to

3、facilitate recall campaigns and identification of stolen property.1.2 This standard is applicable to all bicycles, refer toClassification F2043 on definition for bicycle.2. 4、inology appears inClassification F2043.3.2 Definitions:3.2.1 makename under which the vehicle is sold. Thiscould be either manufacturer, importer, retailer, or all of theabove.3.2.2 modela name that a manufacturer applies to a familyof vehicles of the same make and type.3.2.3 month of manufacturewes

5、tern calendar month inwhich the serial number is affixed to the frame.3.2.4 obscurementof serial number indicates that a bicyclecomponent needs to be removed in order to view the number.3.2.5 plant of manufactureindicates the location where theserial number is affixed to the frame.3.2.6 year of manu

6、facturewestern calendar year in whichthe serial number was affixed to the frame.4. General Requirements4.1 Each character in each serial number shall be one of theletters in the set: ABCDEFGHJKLMNPRSTUVWXYZ, or anumeral in the set: 0123456789 assigned according to themethod described in 5.1. Letters

7、 I, O and Q are intentionallyomitted.4.2 All spaces provided for in the eleven digit serial numbermust be occupied by a character specified in 4.1, a dash, or anasterisk.4.3 The typeface for each serial number, SN plus elevencharacters, shall consist of uppercase characters. The charac-ters must be

8、visible to the naked eye from a distance of 45 cm(18 in.) after coating and without obscurement.4.4 The SN followed by eleven character serial numbermust be reported as one line. No additional identificationmarkings may begin with SN or be on the same line as theserial number.5. Content Requirements

9、5.1 FormThe serial number shall possess the followingform:SN123456789101where the eleven alphanumeric characters have the follow-ing allocations:1,2,3Unique make, manufacturer, and plant of manufac-turer code. The three zero characters, 000, denote that thisinformation is unspecified within the seri

10、al number, and areused where this unique code has not been previously estab-lished.4,5Year of manufacture, last two digits of western calen-dar year.6Month of manufacture, where:A = January E = May J = SeptemberB = February F = June K = OctoberC = March G = July L = NovemberD = April H = August M -

11、December7,8,9,10,11Unique five character unit production number,in a format defined by the manufacturer. The manufacturershall apply five characters, no more and no less, to result in thea serial number length of 13 characters on one line, SN andeleven characters. Additional characters used by the m

12、anufac-turer shall not be on the same line.6.
