3、 insert fittings and copper crimp rings for three sizes(12 ,34 , and 1) of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) andpolyethylene of raised temperature (PE-RT) plastic tubing.These fittings are intended for use in 100 psi (690 kPa) cold-and hot-water distribution systems operating at temperaturesup to and

Included are the require-ments for material, molded part properties, performance, work-manship, dimensions, and markings to be used on the fittingsand rings.1.2 UnitsThe values stated in inch-pound units are to beregarded as standard. Fittingsshall be made from virgin plastic or reworked plastic inaccordance with 5.1.2.5.1.1 Since fittings specified by this standard will be used inhot-and-cold water plumbing s

17、ystems, a material used tomanufacture fittings in accordance with this specification mustdemonstrate qualities consistent with that application in addi-tion to the performance requirements of this specification.Those qualifying characteristics include, but are not limited to,an established hydrostat

18、ic design basis (HDB) or stress designbasis (SDB) in accordance with PPI TR-3 or similar rating anda demonstration of resistance to the long-term effects of thosechemicals normally found in potable water at the maximumtemperature stated in this specification.5.1.2 Rework MaterialClean rework materia

19、l of the samecommercial designation, generated from the manufacturersown production may be used by the same manufacturer,provided the fittings meet all of the requirements of thisspecification. Reworked material shall not be introduced at aratio exceeding 25 %.5.2 Potable Water RequirementsProducts

20、intended for thetransport of potable water shall be evaluated, tested andcertified for conformance with NSF/ANSI Standard No. 61 orthe health effects portion of NSF/ANSI Standard No. 14 by anacceptable certifying organization when required by the regu-latory authority having jurisdiction.5.3 Crimp R

21、ingsCrimp rings shall be manufactured andmarked in accordance with the requirements of SpecificationF 1807.6. Molded Part Properties6.1 Insert CrushThe fitting insert shall not crack, split, orshatter when tested in accordance with 12.1.6.2 SplayThe molded part shall be free of visible splayexceptin

22、g some slight blushing at the gate location.7. Performance Requirements7.1 GeneralAll performance tests shall be performed onassemblies of fittings, crimp rings, and PEX tubing. Fittingsand crimp rings shall meet the material and dimensionalrequirements of this standard. PEX tubing shall meet thereq

23、uirements of Specification F 876. Assembly of test speci-mens shall be in accordance with Section 10. 30、ening shall not exceed 1 off the true centerline axis.8.1.2 Tapered ThreadsFitting threads shall be AmericanNational Standard Taper Pipe Thread Form conforming toSpecification F 1498.8.1.3 Straight ThreadsStraight pipe threads, intended forthe making of a gasketed seal with taper pipe threads, shall

Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 The sealing surfaces of the insert shall be smooth andfree of foreign material. The fitting walls shall be free ofcracks, holes, blister

32、s, voids, foreign inclusions, or otherdefects that are visible to the unaided eye and that affect thewall integrity.9.2 Except for the insert, the molded part shall be free offlash in excess of 0.005 in. (0.13 mm). Flash, mismatch, andwitness mark requirements for the insert shall be in accordancewi

Assembly10.1 Crimp JointsInsert fittings shall be joined to PEXtubing by the compression of a copper crimp ring around theouter circumference of the tubing forcing the tubing materialinto annular spaces formed by ribs on the fitting. Insert fittingsand crimp rings shall meet the dimens

34、ional and materialrequirements of this standard. PEX tubing shall meet therequirements of Specifications F 876. The dimensions andout-of-roundness of the crimp ring after it has been crimpedshall be in accordance with Table 1.10.1.1 Crimping ProcedureTo affix the insert fitting to thetubing with the

35、 crimp ring, the crimping procedure shall be asfollows: slide the crimp ring onto the tubing, insert the ribbedend of the fitting into the end of the tubing until the tubingcontacts the shoulder of the fitting or tube stop. The crimp ringshall then be positioned on the tubing so the edge of the crim

36、pring contacts the shoulder of the fitting or tube stop. The jawsof the crimping tool shall be centered over the crimp ring andthe tool shall be held so that the crimping jaws are approxi-mately perpendicular to the axis of the barb. The jaws of thecrimping tool shall be closed around the crimp ring

37、, compress-ing the crimp ring onto the tubing. The crimp ring shall not becrimped more than once. Each crimp shall be checked todetermine conformance to the after crimped dimensionalrequirements of Table 1.11. Test Methods11.1 DimensionsAny randomly selected fitting or fittingsand crimp ring or crim

38、p rings shall be used to determinedimensions. Measurements shall be made in accordance withTest Method D 2122. Determine the diameters by makingmeasurements at four locations spaced at approximately 45apart around the circumference.12. Molded Part Properties Test Methods12.1 Insert Crush Test Under

39、ambient conditions, test sixfittings of each size in accordance with 12.1.1.12.1.1 ProcedureUsing a bench vise or other suitablecompression device, place the insert of the fitting between thejaws of the vise. Close the jaws of the vise deforming the insertuntil the opposing inside walls of the inser

40、t touch. The insertshall not crack, split, or shatter, see Fig. 3. Separation of theinsert from the fitting body at the shoulder shall not beconsidered a failure, see Fig. 4.13. Restest13.1 If any failure occurs, a retest shall be conducted onlyif agreed upon between the purchaser and the seller. Fa

41、ilure inthe retest is cause for rejection of the shipment.14. Product Marking15.1 Quality of MarkingThe marking shall be appliedto the fittings in such a manner that it remains legible afterinstallation and inspection.15.2 Content of Marking:15.2.1

45、Marking on fittings shall include manufacturersname or trademark, or some other identifying mark, materialdesignation, and ASTM F 2735.15.2.1.1 Where recessed marking is used on fittings, careshall be taken to see that in no case shall the marking causecracks or reduce the wall thickness below the m

This information hasbeen taken from gages in current production at the time of thewriting of this standard. Gages shown here provide only areference fo

48、r the maximum and minimum diameters of thecrimped ring and do not provide a check for the out-of-rounddimension. Additionally, calipers or micrometers may also beused.X1.2 Crimp gages manufactured according to the dimen-sions shown in Fig. X1.1 will ensure that crimps checked withthese gages will no

49、t be larger or smaller than those allowed bythis standard.X1.3 Use of the Crimp GO/NO-GO GageSlide thecorrect size GO section of the gage over the crimped ring in atleast two places and attempt to slide the NO-GO section of thegage over the crimped ring in at least two places (see NoteX1.1). The GO section of the gage should slide over thecrimped ring easily and the NO-GO section should not slideover the crimped ring. If the GO section does not slide over thering, or the NO-GO section slides over the ring, the crimpedjoint must be replaced.
