6、is withdrawn.Information about this documentThese standards form part of a series of British Standards for rivets prepared at the request of the aerospace industry. The 1958 edition provided for ranges of snap head high nickel-copper alloy rivets with head proportions and shank diameters basically t

7、he same as those used hitherto. The proportions of the rivet heads are those endorsed by ISO/TC 20 Aircraft and space vehicles, as are the identification markings contained in this revision of the standard. In general, the dimensions of the rivets were more closely defined than previously, but the s

8、hank tolerances, in common with those for steel snap head rivets in BS SP 76, are wider than those specified for snap head aluminium and aluminium alloy rivets in BS SP 77 to SP 80. The tolerances are so arranged, however, that the maximum diameters are the same.This document makes reference to the

A table is given in Appendix B to provide a ready means of calculating the approximate metric equivalents o

22、f the imperial dimensions. More accurate conversions should be based on the tables in BS 350.2 MaterialThe rivets shall be manufactured from material complying with the requirements of the latest issue of Procurement Executive M.O.D., aircraft material specification DTD 204.3 DimensionsThe rivets, u

23、nplated or before plating, shall conform to the dimensions specified in Table 2 and Table 3. When required to be plated, the dimensions of the rivets after plating may exceed the maximum dimensions given in Table 2 and Table 3 by not more than 0.0005in.4 Finish4.1 The finish of the rivets shall be i

24、n accordance with the relevant requirements of Table 1.4.2 Cadmium plating shall be in accordance with the requirements of the latest issue of Procurement Executive M.O.D., aircraft process specification DTD 904.5 Identification and marking5.1 The marking of the rivets shall be as specified in Table

25、 1, and shall be applied as follows.1) Rivets over 3/32in diameter which do not exceed 8 diameters in length shall be marked on the shank end with the exception of the 1/8in diameter which may be marked on the head.2) Rivets 1/16in and 3/32in diameter in all lengths, and rivets over 3/32in diameter

26、which exceed 8 diameters in length may be marked on either the head or the shank end.The marking shall be clearly visible and the depth shall not exceed the following dimensions.0.006 in on sizes up to and including 1/8in diameter;0.008 in on sizes 5/32in and 3/16in diameter;0.010 in on sizes 7/32in

27、 diameter and over.5.2 Rivets identified by old-style markings may be supplied until existing stocks are consumed. The obsolescent marking is as follows.5.3 Example of call-up:A cadmium-plated rivet 1/8in diameter 5/8in length shall be specified for ordering purposes as follows:6 Freedom from defect

BS SP 82 rivets have cadmium as a plating material, which has been restricted and/or banned for use in many countries owing to environmental and health concerns; they should not be used in new product designs.
